Hurricane Helene has reminded that climate change is happening and that we need to get focused on ways to reduce the future effects of climate change. Part of what is needed is for us to quit using fossil fuels to generate electricity or fuel our cars. This can only be done in the US by a combination of local, state and federal changes. Some steps have begun. For example, wind and solar power now produce more electricity in the US than is produced by coal. NJ has an ambitious goal for getting to 100 percent clean energy by 2035. Also, the Westfield Town Council passed a climate action plan resolution in 2024. In addition, more people are driving EV cars that produce no CO2 emissions.
