The Clark squad maintained a significant presence during the aftermath of the attacks. CVES Life Honorary Member and current Township Business Administrator James Ulrich was working in Lower Manhattan during the attack there and used his skills to help others.
Mayor Sal Bonaccorso introduced EMT Gary Wagner to speak during last week’s commemoration. The mayor also thanked Mr. Wagner for his 50 years of service to the squad.
Mr. Wagner shared how the CVES captain at the time of the attacks, Lorraine Podraza, who is still a member, organized a crew that traveled to Jersey City. Crew members spent hours triaging people coming by ferry from Manhattan. Later, CVES was needed in Hoboken to continue with rescue efforts.
The Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad has been serving Clark since 1941 and always welcomes new members. Anyone interested in becoming a member is encouraged to complete the membership form at https:// www.ourclark.com/325/Join-Us.
