The Westfield High School girls field hockey team defeated the Caldwell Chiefs, 4-0, in Caldwell on September 10 then two days later wiped out Newark Academy, 7-0, at Gary Kehler Stadium in Westfield to improve to 3-1. After defeating Cranford, 5-1, in their opener, the Blue Devils’ loss was to Montclair Kimberley, 4-0.

Against the Caldwell Chiefs, the Blue Devils scored twice in the second quarter and twice in the fourth quarter. Freshman forward Ashley McGeough flicked in a pair of goals. Junior midfielders Riley Carr and Kayla Reyes each scored once. Junior midfielder Emma Schwarzenbek and freshman forward Nicole DiMattina each dished out an assist. Splitting time in goal, senior Jolie Bruder recorded six saves and junior Haley Berger had no need to make a save. Caldwell goalkeeper Eliza Lima recorded 16 saves.
The game against Newark Academy was a back-and-forth duel for the first quarter but the Blue Devils began to assert their authority with a goal in the second quarter then blew the game wide open with four goals in the third quarter before adding the finishing touches with two more goals in the fourth quarter.
Senior midfielder Abi Mokrzycki netted a pair of goals and Reyes added a goal and two assists. Carr fired in one goal and dished out an assist. Junior forwards Anna Mangold and Maren Restivo, along with junior midfielder Saige Levitt each scored once. Junior midfielder Emma Schwarzenbek had two assists. Junior midfielder Maeve Wojcik and senior forwards Becca Silverman and Amanda Williams each added an assist. Bruder made one save and Berger recorded no saves. Newark Academy goalkeepers Shekinah Nedd and Isabel Jordan made 10 saves and two saves, respectively.
