Kathleen “Kacie” Borchers passed away suddenly in her home on the morning of Thursday, July 11, 2024, at the age of 69. Kathleen was born in February, 1955 in Kansas City, Mo. After various moves throughout the country, the Borchers family settled in Westfield, N.J., where, for the past 50 years, Kathleen has called home. She attended high school in LaGrange, Ill.; Madison, Conn.; and Westfield, N. J., and studied at the City University of New York for Hospitality and the Culinary Arts. Kathleen worked in the hotel industry and spent many years working at the Best Western Westfield Inn, where she made many lifelong friends.
Kathleen was passionate about travel and was always eager to be on the road with dear companions, exploring as much of the Eastern Seaboard and the United States as possible. As a young woman, she lived in California, Bavaria, and London. She enjoyed exploring Europe, before returning to New Jersey. She was happiest spending time at her beloved cottage in Madison, Conn., and recently fulfilled her dream of reuniting with her childhood friends at her eighth-grade (1969) class reunion in LaGrange, Ill.
An avid reader, Kathleen participated in various book clubs, and became chairman of her own book club, post-pandemic, which she hosted every month. She was passionate about classic cinema and television, and partial to Sidney Poitier films, “Jeopardy,” “The Andy Griffith Show” and “Dr. Pol”. A two-time brain cancer survivor, Kathleen had a cheerful disposition and a determination throughout her battles that amazed even her doctors. With a constant support system, she was able to enjoy life despite the hardships that came with it. A devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Kathleen was dedicated to those she loved and provided a steadfast presence in their lives. She loved deeply and was loved deeply in return.
Kathleen was predeceased by her parents, Wallace and Edna, and is survived by her siblings, James “Ned” Borchers, Mary Borchers and Margaret “Peg” Sullivan; her nieces and nephews, Jeannie, Derek, Ben, Cecily and Jimmy; her sister-in-law, Marianne, and many friends and relatives. We will miss you, our beautiful, sweet “Kacie,” more than you’ll ever know.
A memorial service and gathering will be held for Kathleen in the fall of 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kathleen’s name can be made to the charity of your choice.
