Cathy Loughlin, Former Teacher at Washington School in Westfield
Cathy Arnold Loughlin of Westfield, N.J., died on Saturday, June 8, 2024. She was 72.
Cathy was born on February 1, 1952 in Plainfield, N. J., to Theodore and Beverly Arnold. She graduated from Plainfield High School and attended The Ohio State University before graduating from Fairleigh Dickinson University with honors.
Her family and teaching were her biggest passions. Cathy started her teaching career at Woods Road Elementary School in Hillsborough, N.J., where she was a Title I reading instructor to disadvantaged students and a first-grade teacher. She left that position to raise her two children and then returned to teaching fourth and fifth grade at Washington Elementary School in Westfield, N.J., where she taught for many years until her retirement. Throughout her teaching career she was a charismatic and compassionate presence for her students, their families, and her fellow teachers. She was predeceased by her parents and beloved sister, Anne, and is survived by her loving family, including husband Vincent, children Keith and Anne (Patrick), grandchildren Chapin and Charlie, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to the Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, N.J., for visitation today, Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Burial arrangements are private for the family.
