Tuesday, May 21, police took a report of a stolen motorcycle that was removed from the vicinity of Gibson Boulevard. This incident is under investigation.
Tuesday, May 21, Maurice Williams, 23, of Newark was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Newark, in the amount of $6,500. Williams was transported to Clark Police Department Headquarters, processed accordingly and later released pending a court date.
Wednesday, May 22, police took a report of a burglary to a business located at 1083 Raritan Road. The incident is under investigation.
Wednesday, May 22, police took a report of fraud from a resident. This incident is under investigation.
Thursday, May 23, police took a report of a shoplifting incident that occurred at the CVS Pharmacy, located at 241 Westfield Avenue. This incident is under investigation.
Friday, May 24, Marianna Labianco-Zaragoza, 47, of Cliffside Park was arrested and charged with shoplifting merchandise, valued at $141.07, from the Target store, located at 45 Central Avenue. Labianco-Zaragoza was transported to Clark Police Department Headquarters, processed accordingly and released pending a court date.
Saturday, May 25, Jerry Butler, 56, of Clark was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). He was subsequently released pending a court date.
Saturday, May 25, John Morerafierro, 34, of Elizabeth was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Winfield Township.
FANWOOD
Tuesday, May 28, a patrol unit responded to 193 Terrill Road (Community Access) for a report of a past occurred assault. A resident at that location assaulted one of the employees and an arrest was made of that individual.
SCOTCH PLAINS
Thursday, May 16, a theft was reported at the UPS store at 2560 Route 22 East. The victim reported losing his wallet at the store. Video revealed an individual taking the wallet off of the counter and leaving the store. The wallet was returned to the police department at a later date. This matter is under investigation.
Saturday, May 18, Samantha Ghanem, 31, of Middlesex was arrested and charged with possession of heroin, various pills and paraphernalia. She was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Ghanem also was charged with Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer for spitting in an officer’s face during the transport. She was charged and taken to Essex County jail awaiting her first appearance.
Tuesday, May 21, Congregation Beth Israel reported a bias incident. According to the CCTV, two juvenile females pulled a “We stand with Israel” sign out of the ground and spit on it. The matter is under investigation.
Wednesday, May 22, three residents reported their motor vehicles either being broken into or the target of an attempted break-in on the 300 block of Hoe Avenue. CCTV was recovered by detectives and currently is under investigation.
Friday, May 24, the Sunoco gas station, located at 1746 Route 22 East, reported a burglary that occurred at 4 a.m. A masked Black male entered the store and stole over $800 along with lottery tickets. This matter is under investigation.
Saturday, May 25, the U-Haul store, located at 2015 Route 22 West, reported that one of its motor vehicles was stolen. Between May 22 and 23, someone removed the vehicle from the yard. The business is still in possession of the keys. This matter is under investigation.
Sunday, May 26, Fuquan Jones, 31, of Plainfield was arrested as the result of a motor vehicle stop. Jones was stopped by police for driving with a suspended license. It was revealed that he had a traffic warrant out of Dunellen. He was processed and given a new court date.
Monday, May 27, Jeremy Goodman, 41, of Plainfield was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI) following a single-car accident. Goodman crashed his vehicle at the intersection of Terrill Road and Cushing Road. Goodman was transported to Overlook Medical Center for minor injuries. He was later processed at police headquarters and was issued summonses for careless driving, reckless driving and Driving Under the Influence after a breath test showed his alcohol level to be .27 percent.
WESTFIELD
Sunday, May 26, Gabriel Castillo, 27, of New Brunswick was placed under arrest and charged with N.J.S.A. 39:4-50, Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), pursuant to a motor vehicle stop on Central Avenue near the intersection of Clover Street. Castillo was transported to the Westfield Police Department, where he was processed and released with a future court date.
Thursday, May 30, Peter Primavera, Jr., 66, of Westfield was arrested on the strength of a no-bail Somerset County Superior Court warrant following a premise check in the area of the 200 block of North Avenue West. Primavera was processed, then turned over to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office after being transported to the Somerset County jail.
Thursday, May 30, the Westfield Police Department was alerted to a wanted motor vehicle from another jurisdiction that was captured on a licenseplate- reader camera. A Westfield police officer positioned their patrol car behind the vehicle in question and then attempted to stop the vehicle based on it being identified in criminal activity in another jurisdiction. The driver of the vehicle failed to pull over for the officer when the officer activated the police vehicle’s emergency lights and siren. The driver continued to disobey the officer’s direction to pull over and the officer continued to follow the vehicle into another jurisdiction. At this time, the police officer returned to Westfield. The identity of the driver was later determined. Numerous motor vehicle summonses were issued to the driver via mail.
Thursday, May 30, a resident reported the theft of her purse and cell phone while shopping at a store on the 100 block of Elm Street. An unknown person removed both items from the victim’s shopping cart without her knowledge. Credit cards from the purse were then used throughout Union County.
Thursday, May 30, a resident of the 1400 block of Boynton Avenue reported being the victim of identity theft; specifically, that an unknown suspect(s) established loans at lending institution(s) in the victim’s name. The resident stated that they are unaware who opened the accounts without their authorization or what information was used to open the accounts. The victim has reported no financial loss at this time.
Friday, May 31, an anonymous resident responded to the Westfield Police Department to surrender a cell phone that was found on Euclid Avenue. After the found property was surrendered, it was secured at police headquarters for safekeeping until the owner is located.
Friday, May 31, a Westfield business owner reported that an unknown individual(s) scratched the hood of his motor vehicle, which was parked, unoccupied, in Westfield Municipal Parking Lot No. 5 on the 100 block of Elmer Street. A witness observed an individual jump on to the hood of the vehicle, then leave the area.
Friday, May 31, a resident of the 1100 block of Lawrence Avenue reported a possible burglary attempt to his house. After Westfield police officers arrived, it was confirmed that the rear-door glass panel had been broken and a window screen was cut and removed by a suspect(s) in the attempt. No entry was made into the residence and no proceeds were taken.
