Christine M. Diemer
Obituaries
June 5, 2024
Christine M. Diemer

Christine Marie Diemer, 62, of Fort Mill, S.C., on Friday, May 24, was suddenly summoned to join her beloved mother in Heaven. Chris will be greatly missed by all who know her. She was a kind, selfless person who had a positive impact on everyone she touched, be it family, close friends, or acquaintances. She was most comfortable helping a student in need of special attention or providing a calming word of support.

Predeceased by her mother, Patricia M. Diemer, she is survived by her father, Richard J. Diemer — Fort Mill, S.C.; sister, Karen M. Judge (Matthew) — Freehold, N.J., and five brothers, Richard J. Diemer, Jr. (Adele Hoffmeyer) — Manakin Sabot, Va. and Johns Island, S. C., James S. Diemer (Maureen) — Carrollton, Tex. and Myrtle Beach, S.C., Stephen T. Diemer — Indian Land, S.C., Thomas J. Diemer (Barbara) — Houston, Tex. and Spello, Italy, and Paul R. Diemer ( Laura) — Midlothian, Va. She was the beloved Aunt Chris to sixteen nieces and nephews and “great” Aunt Chris to eight. Also surviving is her longtime canine companion, Kylie/“KK,” a rescue Chihuahua mixed breed who has been at her side for 17 years.

Chris was a dedicated teacher with 28 years of service and was a two-time Teacher of the Year award winner. Her career began as an adaptive physical education teacher at the Cayce School. In 1986, she started her career in Richland School District Two, teaching special education, third and fourth grade until 2015 (Dent Middle, Windsor Elementary, Center for Achievement, North Springs Elementary and Catawba Trail Elementary). She especially enjoyed her role as a special education teacher. Throughout her career, she was committed to supporting and empowering students with diverse learning needs, providing individualized attention,

and creating inclusive classroom environments. Her passion for education and unwavering dedication made a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues, earning her admiration and respect in the educational community. She understood the profound importance of building strong relationships, not only with her colleagues but also with her students and their families. Her commitment extended beyond the classroom, as she frequently attended sports games, recitals, and family events, fostering a supportive and inclusive community. Her unwavering dedication and compassionate approach left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered.

Chris was also a multi-sport standout who was inducted into the Westfield (N.J.) Athletic Hall of Fame in the early 2000s. She attended Rutgers University on a softball scholarship in 1980 and transferred to the University of South Carolina in Columbia, where she played catcher and was a member of the team that progressed to the Final Four of the College World Series in 1983. Concurrent with her collegiate career, she also played as an amateur for the Budweiser Belles, Raybestos Brakettes and Montclair 81s in the Northeast- based professional women’s softball league.

Chris was also a passionate follower of Gamecock sports and loved to listen to any song sung by fellow Gamecock Darius Rucker.

Burial is planned at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, N.J., with arrangements being handled by Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue, Westfield, N.J. 07090. A gathering is planned on Sunday evening, June 9, from 4 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to a GoFundMe account established to benefit students with special needs (and their teachers) in Chris’ memory: https:/ /gofund.me/895bc4e9.
