Library Announces Events For All Ages During June

GARWOOD —The Garwood Public Library has announced its calendar of events for adults and youth alike during June. Located at 411 Third Avenue, the library is open Monday and Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The library is closed on Sunday.

This Sunday, June 2, the library will have a booth at the Garwood Rocks street fair, which will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. along Center Street in Garwood. Visitors will have an opportunity to sign up for a library card, learn about library programs and participate in a raffle.

The library’s Knitting Club will meet on the Mondays of June 3 and 10, at 10:30 a.m., after which the group will take a break for the summer. Participants are invited to spend an hour being creative and socializing. No registration is required. Yarn and needles are provided to newcomers. Club meetings will resume in September.

The library will serve as a polling location for the New Jersey Primary Election on Tuesday, June 4. While the library itself will be open, the children’s section will be closed. Library computers and seating will not be available, but browsing and checkout will be permitted.

Summer Reading Sign Up will begin on Monday, June 10. “Adventure Begins at Your Library” will be this summer’s theme, as the library celebrates all kinds of adventure. Activities will include ice cream parties, scavenger hunts, crafts and musical programs, plus a chance to win tickets to GreatAdventure,American Dream’s Legoland Discovery Center, or the SEA LIFE New Jersey Aquarium. Participants may pick up their summer reading packet at the library from June 10 through Wednesday, July 17.

The Book Discussion Group will meet at the library on Monday, June 17, at 1 p.m. Members will engage in a lively discussion of this month’s book, “The Uninvited Guest,” by Shari La Pena.

The Summer Reading Opening Party is planned for Wednesday, June 26, beginning at 2 p.m., in the library parking lot. Free ice cream from the Scream truck will be available. This kick-off event is open to those who are registered for the Summer Reading program. Registration is required. A Magic Show is slated for Thursday, June 27, beginning at 1 p.m. Visitors are invited to join Muscle Man Mike for a SpaceAdventure and some non-stop magic. Registration is required and attendance limited to 30.

The library will present a Scavenger Hunt on Friday, June 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants are asked to view a picture of a lost suitcase on the library’s Facebook and Instagram pages at 10 a.m. that day, find the lost suitcase somewhere in Garwood, and leave the suitcase for others to find. They should then return to the library and report the location of the suitcase by 3 p.m. to collect a prize.

Additionally on June 28, at 1 p.m., children entering third grade and older are invited to create stomp rockets, then launch the rockets outside. Registration is required. For more information and to register for programs, call (908) 789-1670, email garwoodlibrary@garwood.org or visit www.https://garwoodpl.org.
