WESTFIELD — Fairview Cemetery and Arboretum will host its annual spring arboretum walking tour on Sunday, May 19, at 2 p.m., highlighting some of the numerous catalogued species of trees which reside within the cemetery grounds.
“This is an especially wonderful time to tour the grounds, as the fruit trees will be abundant with blossoms,” according to a description from Fairview.
The walking tour will be led by Dr. Tom Ombrello, professor of biology at Union College, and will include commentary on specific trees and various historical details. Fairview Cemetery is a member of the American Public Gardens Association and is accredited as a level 2 arboretum.
Those interested are asked to register online at friendsoffairview1.org. Registration for first-time participants will take place today, Thursday, May 9, through Wednesday, May 15, and will open to the general public on Thursday, May 16.
Fairview Cemetery is located at 1100 East Broad Street, Westfield. Participants should enter through the Gallows Hill gates 15 minutes prior to the start of the event. The gates are located on Gallows Hill Road, opposite the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Space is limited and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
