Monday, April 22, police took a report regarding the theft of a catalytic converter from a motor vehicle that was parked on Shading Place. The incident is under investigation.
Monday,April 22, Tashanda Hayes, 51, of Newark was arrested and charged with shoplifting merchandise, valued at $176.87, from the Target store located at 45 Central Avenue. Hayes was transported to Clark Police Department Headquarters, processed accordingly and released pending a court date.
Monday, April 22, Debbie James, 66, of Newark was arrested and charged with shoplifting merchandise, valued at $575.99, from the Target store located at 45 Central Avenue. James was transported to Clark Police Department Headquarters, processed accordingly and found to have an outstanding warrant out of Clifton. She was turned over to the Essex County jail.
Tuesday, April 23, police took four reports regarding burglaries to motor vehicles that were parked on Walnut Avenue. All of these incidents are under investigation.
Wednesday, April 24, police took a report concerning the theft of an unsecured motor vehicle that was parked on Hickory Street. This incident is under investigation.
Thursday, April 25, police took a report of identity theft from a resident. The incident is under investigation.
Friday, April 26, police took a report of fraud from a resident. This incident is under investigation.
Friday, April 26, police took a report of a shoplifting incident that occurred at the Marshalls store located at 77 Central Avenue. Two female suspects were seen shoplifting merchandise valued at $1,718.72. This incident is under investigation.
Friday, April 26, Steven Capote, 25, of Linden was arrested and charged with shoplifting at the Target store located at 45 Central Avenue. Capote was transported to Clark Police Department Headquarters, processed accordingly and subsequently released pending a court date.
Saturday, April 27, police took a report of identity theft from a resident. This incident is under investigation. WESTFIELD Monday, April 22, a resident of the 700 block of Boulevard reported being the victim of theft. At an unknown time between 2 p.m. on April 21 and 10 a.m. on April 22, an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from the victim’s green 2002 Honda Odyssey minivan.
Tuesday, April 23, a Settlers Lane resident responded to Westfield Police Headquarters and reported an incident of identity theft and fraud. According to the resident, an unknown suspect(s) used his identity and leased several real-estate properties in the victim’s name without his knowledge or consent. The victim has been receiving delinquent rent-payment notifications in the amount of $26,000.
Tuesday, April 23, a resident of the 400 block of Beechwood Place reported being the victim of a theft. According to the victim, someone stole the catalytic converter from his motor vehicle sometime between April 13 and April 23. The theft was valued at $200.
Thursday, April 25, an NJ Transit commuter exited the Westfield northside train station and responded to Westfield Police Headquarters to report that an Apple iPhone 14 was removed from her front right-side jacket pocket while she was aboard the train. The victim did not realize the phone was missing until after she exited the train. The value of the stolen cellular phone is believed to exceed $700.
Saturday,April 27, a property owner on the 100 block of Mountain Avenue reported an act of criminal mischief. Video surveillance showed an unknown male or female, wearing a dark helmet, gloves, light-colored, hooded sweatshirt and dark-colored pants, operating an e-bike that resembles a dirt bike. The suspect could be seen arriving at the area, ripping numerous fence bars apart and then fleeing the area on the e-bike. The approximate total of the damage was $500.
Saturday, April 27, Olivia Orango, 37, of Monmouth Junction was arrested pursuant to a motor vehicle stop at SouthAvenue West and Scotch PlainsAvenue and charged with Driving While Impaired, a violation of N.J.S.A. 39:4-50. Orango also was found to have multiple warrants out of South Brunswick, North Brunswick, New Brunswick and Plainsboro. Orango was later turned over to the New Brunswick Police Department on the strength of that municipality’s contempt of court warrant. ***
Charges are merely an accusation and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
