Frances Loesch Brunner, 99, Beloved Mother and Grandmother

Frances Loesch Brunner, 99, of Herndon, Va., died with her family at her side on Monday, May 29, 2023, at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. Frances moved to Herndon, Va., to live with her daughter Katherine and her family after Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey. Frances was born on October 2, 1923 in Rochester, N.Y., the oldest of five children, to the late Hugo George and Margaretha Mueller Loesch. Frances was raised in Westfield, N.J., and she graduated from the Westfield Senior High School class of 1941.

Frances graduated from The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va., class of 1945. Frances attended Columbia University School of Nursing in New York, N.Y. She was a member of the Phi Beta Phi Sorority.

Her husband, Robert E. Brunner, preceded her in death. Mr. Brunner had owned and operated Robert E. Brunner Prescription Opticians in Westfield for many years before retiring in 1985. Also preceding her in death are her siblings, Dr. John G. Loesch, Gertrude (Trudy)Ann Loesch and H. William Loesch. Frances is survived by her sister, Gretchen Loesch Nash.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Susan Brunner Pratt, Katherine (Glenn) Berg and Nancy Brunner, and her four grandchildren, Jonathan and David Pratt and Jane and Alan (Melissa) Berg, and two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Grayson Berg. Frances enjoyed the varied activities at The College of William and Mary and Colonial Williamsburg. She was a member of The Williamsburg Community Hospital Auxiliary and The Council of The Muscarelle Museum of Art. She also served as a member of The Committee to Furnish The President’s House at The College of William and Mary, of which she received a special recognition from The President of The College on February 23, 1994. Frances had many fond memories of living in Williamsburg. Frances enjoyed homecoming parades, class reunions and spending time at Sandbridge with beloved college friends and family.

A memorial service will be held at The Presbyterian Church in Westfield on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 11 a.m., in the sanctuary. Memorial donations may be made to The Presbyterian Church in Westfield, 140 Mountain Avenue, Westfield, N.J. 07090.
