Robert R. Gregory, Jr.
Obituaries

Robert R. Gregory, Jr.

Robert R. Gregory, Jr., Beloved Brother, Musician, Enjoyed Dogs and Camping

Robert Rush Gregory, Jr. (Rob), 66, our beloved brother, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, after a brief hospitalization at University Hospital in New Jersey. Rob is survived by his brother, Richard Hugh Gregory, and his wife, Sarah, of Orleans, Massachusetts, and numerous cousins. Rob was predeceased by his parents, Robert Rush Gregory and Helen Frick Gregory.

Rob was born in Summit, N.J., on January 5, 1958, and grew up in Westfield, N. J. He graduated from Westfield High School in 1976 and received his Bachelor of Arts in History from Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania in 1980. Rob later went on to earn an associate degree in mechanical engineering from Union County College and an M.B.A. from Seton Hall University.

Most of Rob’s career was with Biach Industries, which designed, manufactured and serviced specialized tooling for the nuclear energy industry. Rob was involved in all three parts of the business and regaled family and friends with his visits to nuclear plants. The entire family became well-versed in, among other things, reactor vessel stud tensioners. Biach was purchased by Hydratight Engineering, the company from which Rob retired in 2021.

Rob’s passions in life were many. Throughout his life, Rob had a dog by his side. Reflecting his passion for classic rock, one of Rob’s dogs was named after an Allman Brothers song. The latest and sweetest, Sammy, misses his dad but is now ensconced in his new forever home with Rich and Sarah. Rob was a consummate musician, owning and playing vintage electric and acoustic guitars. It was Rob who first introduced his brother to classic rock. Camping was also a passion for Rob, especially his annual camping trips to Eagle Camp in Vermont, where he reunited with family and friends. Being well read and informed on the latest political buffoonery from an early age, Rob was part and parcel of the family conversations, arguments and laughter.

Arrangements were handled by Gray Funeral Home in Westfield, N.J. A private service and interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, N.J. Please go to www.grayfuneralhomes.com to offer condolences.

Memorial contributions may be made to a dog rescue organization of your choice.
