CLARK — Clark Township officials are actively working to address local recycling challenges.
On Monday, during a workshop meeting of the township council, Business Administrator Jim Ulrich stated that municipalities would usually sign three-year agreements, but with the “volatility of the disposal cost, the best we can get is a two-year agreement.” As the municipality ends the third year of its existing contract, Mr. Ulrich said, it will seek an agreement to give it one full year of services with the option of going into a second year. Mr. Ulrich stated that the township would be looking around for a two-year contract, but it will still have the first option available as long as it gives 6o days’ notice.
“Recycling is just a disaster; it’s a nightmare throughout the state, throughout the county,” he said. “We talk about it at every County Business Administration meeting. Until the laws change, we’re pretty much stuck. We have to recycle. We have to collect recyclables even though the vast majority of the situation isn’t going anywhere.”
During comments by the mayor and council, Council president Angel Albanese used her time to express her gratitude for the turnout for Clark’s Easter Egg Hunt on March 23, despite the rainy weather that hit the area. She also praised the recreation department for making the event a success.
“I can’t even imagine any other town doing what we do here in Clark in the state of New Jersey,” she said. “ It’s wonderful.”
The next meeting of the Clark Township Council will be at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 15.
