Eugene F. Dervin, Jr., 89, of Fairway Mews, Spring Lake Heights, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024.

Eugene was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and had resided in Westfield for 37 years before moving to Spring Lake Heights 21 years ago. As a resident of Spring Lake Heights, he was a communicant of St. Catharine Parish.

He was a proud graduate of the University of Notre Dame and went on to a long and successful career in investment banking, first working on Wall Street for many years, then coming back to New Jersey until he retired. Professionally, he was a member of the Municipal Bond Club of New York.

Gene, as he was called by his friends and colleagues, was a very faithful man. He was a founding member of St. Helen’s Parish of Westfield, N.J., where he volunteered as a CCD teacher, lector and RCIA catechist. His pride and joy was his family. He volunteered in any way he could for his three daughters, whether it was coaching their softball teams, being present at swimming and diving meets, or teaching them to play golf and all the rules of football. He never missed a beat in their lives.

In 1979, Gene joined Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield. There, he enjoyed what he loved to do the most — play golf. Eugene was predeceased by his parents, Eugene F. and Rose (née Merose) Dervin. Surviving is his devoted wife of 64 years, Margaret (née Reid) Dervin; his three daughters and their spouses, Kathleen and Ronald Wharton, Marybeth and David Jacob, and Patty and David Weinstock; his sister, Rosemary Mooney; five grandchildren, Aimee, Matthew, Kiera, Dylan and Brigit, and four greatgrandchildren, Max, Jeremy, Emily and Andy.
