Summit Prevails Over Raiders In North 2, Group B Swim Semi

SHERRATT WINS 200FR, 500FR; ST. JOHN WINS 100-FLY

The second-seeded Summit High School girls swim team had too many top-notched individuals to go with plenty of depth to overwhelm the third-seeded Scotch Plains-Fanwood Raiders in the semifinal round of the North Jersey, Section 2, Group B Tournament at the Summit “Y” on February 12. The 11-0 Hilltoppers touched first in five of the individual events and won all three relays to claim a 105-65 victory.

The 9-4 Raiders had advanced to the semifinals by defeating seventhseeded Mount Olive, 96-74, while the Hilltoppers received a bye. The next step for the Hilltoppers would be against the top-seeded Chatham Cougars for the title on February 15. The 10-0 Cougars beat Montgomery, 11654, in their semifinal. Earlier in the season, Chatham defeated the Raiders, 112.5-56.5.

Raider Billie Sherratt won two individual events, beginning with the 200-freestyle at 1:58.55, followed by Summit’s Ella Callahan at 2:03.35 and Grace Collins at 2:03.6. Raider Carolyn Joe finished fourth at 2:09.3. Sherratt also won the 500-freestyle in 5:17.08, followed by Summit’s Collins at 5:29.2, Callahan at 5:33.12 and Juliet Ho at 5:42.72. Raider Kiera St. John took top honors in the 100butterfly with a time of 1:02.64, followed by Summit’s Bridget Devaney at 1:03.93, Raider Joe at 1:05.88 and Summit’s Megan Chiella at 1:06.5.

Hilltoppers Molly Fagan, Sidney Arcella, Ho and Juliet Webb finished first in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:52.07, followed by Sherratt, Tessa DeGennaro, St. John and Shae Trenery at 1:52.7 and Summit’s Kathy Hicks, Grace Madden, Devaney and Amanda Semsel at 1:57.35.

Webb, Semsel, Callahan and Arcella finished first in the 200freestyle relay with a time of 1:41.57, followed by Trenery, Sherratt, DeGennaro and St. John at 1:43.84 and Hilltoppers Madden, Devaney, Bella Estupinan and Chiella at 1:49.2. Ho, Callahan, Fagan and Webb took first in the 400-freestyle relay at 3:59.18, followed by Raiders Amelia Condell, Emma Amorin-Vieira, Joe and Hannah Alber at 4:06.4 and Hilltoppers Estupinan, Ava Miller, Emma Vachal and Melanie Dripchak at 4:06.61.

Ho took first in the 200-Individual Medley at 2:13.56, followed by DeGennaro at 2:17.55, Madden at 2:19.56 andAmorin-Vieira at 2:28.12. Semsel took first in the 50-freestyle with a time of 25.68, followed by Raiders Trenery at 25.95, St. John at 26.96 and Alber at 27.38. Arcella led a Summit sweep in the 100-freestyle at 52.43, followed by Fagan at 55.37 and Webb at 55.42. Arcella at 1:10.12 and Madden at 1:12.3 finished 1-2 in the 100-breaststroke, followed by Raiders DeGennaro at 1:12.67 and Maddy Valera at 1:17.18. Fagan at 1:03.01 and Dripchak at 1:05.46 finished 1-2 in the 100-backstroke, followed by Alber at 1:07.82
