Roig Celebrates Exhibition With Scholarship Announcement
CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY...Harlem Renaissance Pioneers of the 1930s Langston Hughes, Paul Robeson and Zora Neale Hurston are memorialized in a mural by local artist Ricardo Roig. At the February 7 dedication ceremony at the Evalyn Dunn Gallery at 549 South Avenue West, members of the community, Mayor Shelley Brindle, members of the town council and members of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Association came to applaud Mr. Roig’s work. The project started a year ago with a simple request by Mayor Brindle to have Mr. Roig do a mural in honor of Westfield’s African-American history. She thanked the artist for “creating a community to reach out to the masses.” Susan M. Dougherty
