JFSCNJ/Alzheimer’s NJ To Offer Support Group

SCOTCH PLAINS — Jewish Family Service of Central New Jersey ( JFSCNJ) is joining Alzheimer’s New Jersey to offer a Free Monthly Virtual Alzheimer’s/Dementia Caregiver Support Group that will now take place on Wednesdays, from 1 to 2:15 p.m. The new dates for the group are February 14, March 13, April 10, May 8 and June 5, 2024.

Bonnie Freirich, LCSW, JFSCNJ director of Dementia Programs, will lead the group. Free and open to Alzheimer’s/Dementia caregivers in the community, this group is run in accordance with Alzheimer’s New Jersey guidelines.

Ms. Freirich is a licensed clinical social worker with over 30 years of experience providing evidencebased mental-health services to a wide range of clients. She is a graduate of New York University’s School of Social Work. In addition to leading the caregiver support group, Ms. Freirich oversees the innovative Coffee House-Day Program for those who have memory loss. This program takes place three days a week, Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is held at Temple Sholom, located at 1925 Lake Avenue, Scotch Plains. The support group is for caregivers/family members, but not appropriate for those with the dementia diagnosis. Participants are welcome to join the group at any time, but need to contact Ms. Freirich in advance to receive the Zoom link. Registration is recommended if one plans to attend. To register, or for more information about the services and programs offered through JFSCNJ for those with Alzheimer’s and Dementia Disorders, contact Ms. Freirich at bfreirich@jfscentralnj.org or call (908) 352-8375.
