Walter “Bob” Rimkus

Walter Robert ‘Bob’ Rimkus, 85,
Family Man, Retired Executive

Walter Robert “Bob” Rimkus, 85, of Naples, Fla., died on Sunday, December 31, 2023, at the Frances Georgeson Hospice House. Formerly of Westfield, N.J., he had been a Naples resident since 2010. He was born August 24, 1938 in Boston, Mass., the son of the late Walter W. and Ellen (Gindell) Rimkus.

Mr. Rimkus was a veteran of the United States Army, proudly serving his country from 1960 to 1963. Bob attended Boston College before starting his IT career with Chase Manhattan Bank. Based primarily in New York, Bob did work abroad for several years in London and Geneva. He retired from JPMorgan Chase & Co. as Vice President, System Development.

Bob was a fan of all Boston sports teams and he enjoyed reading mysteries and accounts of World War II as well as listening to music, especially opera. In retirement he started the hobby of modeling airplanes and military ships. When his son was young, Bob assisted in his Boy Scout activities and with his Little League teams.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 52 years, Nancy (Clemens) Rimkus; loving son, David (Tina) Rimkus of Naples, Fla.; sisters, Carole Conroy of Naples, Fla. and Virginia (Joseph) Smith of Reading, Mass.; cherished granddaughter, Callie; and his sisters-in law, Susan Brand and Julie Clemens, both of Westfield, N.J. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Troy. Visitation was held on Sunday, January 7, 2024, from 3 to 5 p.m., at Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trail So., Bonita Springs, FL 34134. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, January 8, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 7775 Vanderbilt Beach Road, Naples, FL 34120. He was laid to rest on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, N.J.

Memorial contributions in Bob’s name may be made to Habitat for Humanity of Collier County, 11145 Tamiami Trail E., Naples, FL 34113.
