Raiders Top Hillside, 36-34, Slip to Rahway Cagers, 45-44

The Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School boys basketball team broke even with a pair of down-to-thewire games that began with a 36-34 topping of the Hillside Comets on December 16. But the Raiders then slipped to 1-2 with a 45-44 setback to the Rahway Indians on December 19.

Jack Sponheimer led the Raiders against Hillside with 15 points, including a 3-pointer, six steals, six rebounds and a block. Anderson Pollack finished with seven points, including a 3-pointer, three steals and three rebounds. Caleb McDowell had five points, two blocks, two rebounds and an assist. Sam Sponheimer had four points, a rebound, a steal and an assist. Beckham Quinn had two points and two rebounds. Jacob Handy had two points, two steals, a rebound and an assist. Kyle Hunter had a rebound, a steal, an assist and a point. Jack Wall had four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Sean Saggio had two rebounds and a block. Cooper Tamase pulled a rebound.

Dartangnon Siddons led the Comets with 15 points, eight rebounds, two steals and a block. Paul Onyeagocha had 11 rebounds, six points, five blocks and a steal. Isaiah Green had seven points (3-pointer), two steals, a rebound and an assist. Anthony Duran sank a 3-pointer, had four assists and four rebounds. Kareem Hogan had two blocks, two points and two rebounds. Jakai Lucas had two points and a rebound.

Against Rahway, Jack Sponheimer finished with 10 points (2 3-pointers), six rebounds and two assists. Pollack had 10 points (2 3-pointers) and four rebounds. Jaden Carpien sank eight points (3-pointer) and added two rebounds and a block. Sam Sponheimer had five points (3pointer), eight assists, two blocks, two steals and three rebounds. Wall sank a 3-pointer and added two assists, two rebounds and a block. McDowell had two points, three rebounds and a steal. Brayden Gal had two points and a rebound. Hunter had two points, two rebounds and two steals. Quinn had two points and a rebound.

James Downing led 2-1 Rahway with 13 points (2 3-pointers), Dmitri Dulorie had nine points (3-pointer) and Craig West had nine points (7for-10 free throws). Mikal Stephenson had eight points, Isaiah Gurley had four points and Eric McClain had two points.
