After winning their opening game of the season against Elizabeth on December 14, the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School basketball Raider girls had to face their Westfield Blue Devil rivals on December 19. The Raiders were trailing the Blue Devils, 17-16, at the half but went on a second-half scoring spree to emerge with a 50-35 victory in Scotch Plains.
The Raiders recorded 18 steals against the 0-3 Blue Devils and senior captain Amanda Baylock led the Raiders with 18 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and six steals to go with five rebounds and three assists. Junior Marin Pecarsky put in 15 points, including a 3-pointer, and added four rebounds and an assist. Sara Lehman swiped four steals and finished with six points, six rebounds, three assists and a block. Sophia Catalano had three steals, five points, four rebounds and an assist. Grace Cawley had three steals, three points and two rebounds. Mackenzie Harmer had a block and a rebound. Maggie McNulty sank a 3-pointer and added a steal and a rebound. J’Nyyah Young had a steal.
Mairin Fowler led the Blue Devils with nine points, including a 3-pointer, while adding an assist, a steal and a rebound. Sophie Lane finished with seven points (3-pointer), four blocks, five rebounds, two steals and an assist. Sara Rooney led the team with nine rebounds and five assists, and added a pair of 3-pointers and two steals. Megan Logan led with five blocks, while adding five points (3pointer) and four rebounds. Catherine Oliveira had four rebounds, two points, two assists and two steals. Laura Oliveira had four points (3pointer) and two rebounds. Lucy Burke pulled five rebounds and added two blocks, two steals and an assist. Darby Hubner had three rebounds.
