Blue Devils Beat Oak Knoll, Lose to Hillsborough Girls

The Westfield High School girls basketball team picked up its first win of the season with a 40-22 victory over the Oak Knoll Royals in Westfield on December 21 but two days later, Hillsborough literally stole a 73-34 victory over the Blue Devils.

Against the Oak Knoll Royals, Blue Devil senior Sara Rooney hit a doubledouble with 11 points (trip 3-pointers) and 10 rebounds to go with three assists and two steals. Megan Logan also had a big game with seven blocked shots and five steals to go with eight rebounds and six points. Mairin Fowler bucketed 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, pulled two rebounds and had two steals. Sophie Lane had seven points, three rebounds, two blocks and a steal. Catherine Oliveira netted two points, four rebounds and two steals. Erin Doherty had two points, six rebounds, three assists and a steal. Lucy Burke had three steals, an assist and a rebound.

Milan Jones scored eight points for the Royals. Betsy Burton scored four points as did Maris Meginty. Cassidy Koetje scored two points as did Kiley Reape.

Burke pulled 11 rebounds against Hillsborough and added six points, two steals, an assist and a block. Logan had three blocks, seven points (3pointer), two steals and two rebounds. Lane recorded eight points, seven rebounds and an assist. Rooney finished with five points, six rebounds, two blocks and a steal. Doherty had three points, two rebounds and an assist. Priscilla Dayan had two points, a steal, a rebound and an assist. Darby Hubner had two points and two rebounds.

Hillsborough amassed 28 acts of thievery against the Blue Devils. Mya Loniewski had seven steals, 26 points (2 3-pointers), six assists and three rebounds. Francesca Schiro had five steals, 22 points (trip 3-pointers), five rebounds and an assist. Nevya Loniewski finished with 11 points, including a 3-pointer, four steals, five assists and six rebounds. Isabella Ruffa had seven steals, five points, three rebounds and two assists. Isabella Ruh had three steals, three assists and four rebounds. Nicola Johnson had two steals, four points and two rebounds. Alexa Gaspar had five points (3pointer) and three rebounds.
