Scott Katz Dedicated to Inclusive Programming for the Rec Commission

Scott Katz Dedicated to Inclusive Programming for the Rec Commission

I am writing in support of Scott Katz for re-election as Westfield Ward 4 Councilman. I am the Chair of the Westfield Recreation Commission and I have had the benefit of Scott as a partner on the town council over the past 4-years.

Scott fosters collaboration among varying groups that enhance the programing and facilities that the Recreation Department has been able to offer. He’s made connections for us with the Bike Board, the Green Team, BRAKES, Friends of Brightwood Park, sports leagues like the Westfield Soccer, Baseball, Softball and Lacrosse Associations, and the Tree Preservation Committee. These partnerships have led to events like the Tour de Westfield and Forest Bathing, as well as improvements to the facilities at Sid Fay/Houlihan fields, Memorial Park softball fields, and at the baseball fields at Gumbert.

Scott’s empathy comes through in his commitment to make sure that the recreation department’s activities are accessible to all residents of Westfield. He’s supported the development of programming targeted to seniors, babies, teens, kids, and people with special needs. These include the communication boards, special skating sessions at the rink, and inclusive activities as part of Tour de Westfield.

Scott’s dedication to Westfield has driven physical and access improvements to our town parks, including those near the pavilion at Tamaques where the second set of bathrooms is open, building the new Sycamore playground, a complete update updates to Windsor park, updated pond maintenance in all 3 town ponds, lining courts for pickleball, the safety fence at Mindowaskin playground, and the new court reservation system. Memorial Pool remains fiscally sound and was open through the COVID crisis, when many other towns kept their pools closed. In fact, the pool is back to needing a member waitlist and is still at an accessible price point with physical improvements like shade structure, new umbrella shades, additional chairs, and family-friendly programming, plus the addition of adult swim hour!

As you can see, Scott’s commitment to Westfield has had a lasting impact. His participation on the Council and our Commission drives results that enhance the activities of the recreation department and fulfill the mission of the commission. I am thrilled he is running for reelection and encourage the residents of Ward 4 to vote for Scott Katz on November 7!
