Leona Seufert - Garwood on

Garwood is an Ideal Place to Live

No town is perfect. But it seems that every year around election time, a certain group running for council has to point out or dare I say “fabricate,” Garwood’s flaws. I’ve lived here now going on nine years at the senior housing complex on 2nd Avenue, and as a senior citizen, have found this “Small Town With a Big Heart” an ideal place for my retirement. Let me say that all the whining, complaining, and fingerpointing by certain individuals over the last few years have achieved no results. But every year they need to find something wrong with Garwood in order to enhance their own positions.

The council works hard to keep this town the great place it is. They ensure our tax dollars are well spent and stretch as far as possible. They attend countless meetings, show up to public events, and have lengthy conversations with the public about the financial challenges and opportunities for Garwood. So if anyone thinks their voice is not heard, well I’d say, come right down to a Council meeting and make your comments at the open portion; there are two opportunities each month! Or you can talk personally one-on-one with Mayor Jen at one of her “office hours”.

We can see Garwood is a desirable place to live because of the number of familieswhowanttomovehere.Houses are quickly under contract within days of going on the market. The town has a lot to offer: the revitalized Hartman Park, frequent train stops from NJ Transit’s centrally located train station, and walking access to our growing downtown of businesses and restaurants. We also have a great library and, through our Council’s dedication, are fighting for it to remain at the school as a partner in providing programming for both students as well as adults.

I also want to point out that this is a very “safe” town for both seniors, children, and other residents. There is little to no crime, we have a great police force who is always ready to assist residents (I personally know this as they have come to my senior apartment complex when residents needed assistance) and they haveimplementedsafetymeasuressuch as the flashing street signs.

That is why I will be voting for VincentKearney,KarinaBoto, andSean Keagan Foley for Garwood Council. I believe they are our best hope in keeping this town a great place to live.
