Charles E. Daly passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 4, 2023. He was born and raised in Bayonne, where he lived before moving to Westfield in 1989.
Charles served his country in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned a Purple Heart. After four years of active duty, he continued to serve in the Army Reserves before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Charles was a clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst and maintained a private practice in Bayonne for many years. He also worked as a school psychologist in Jersey City and Staten Island, New York. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Seton Hall University; a Master of Arts in Classical Languages at St. John’s University; and two Ph.D. degrees from NYU and Fordham. He completed the NYU Postdoctoral program in Psychoanalysis and another in Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy with Dr. Aaron Beck at the University of Pennsylvania.
Charles will be remembered for his kindness and service to others, his formidable intellect and love of learning, and his devotion to his family.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Patricia Smith Daly; loving family in County Wicklow, Ireland, including Margaret McKeogh, Shane McKeogh, Anne Marie McKeogh Connor and Eammon McKeogh, inlaws Robert and Kathleen Smith, James and Barbara Smith, and Elizabeth Smith, as well as his nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins on both sides of the pond.
A Funeral Mass will be held at the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Westfield Avenue, Westfield, today, Thursday, October 12, at 10 a.m., followed by interment and military honors at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield. The Mass will be livestreamed on www.dooleycolonialhome.com.
