Service League to Welcome Fall With Events at Store

FANWOOD/SCOTCH PLAINS — The Fanwood-Scotch Plains Service League will kick off Fall with a series of seasonal events at its nonprofit Thrift Shop, located at 1741 East Second Street, Scotch Plains.

Starting on Tuesday, October 3, visitors will find a variety of Halloween costumes for children, adults and pets, along with related holiday accessories. Included for sale will be Disney character costumes and several “Curtain Call Costumes” bound to enchant children with a penchant for the stage.

The Thrift Shop’s annual Boot Bonanza will begin on Tuesday, October 10, featuring a wide assortment of both warm and fashionminded boots from famous names. Boots will be available for men, women and children. Interested persons are encouraged to shop early for the best selection.

A one-day jewelry event will be held on Saturday, October 21, during regular business hours of 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will highlight the higher-end pieces generously donated throughout the year. Shoppers will find necklaces, bracelets, watches, rings and earrings, including vintage pieces, sterling silver, pearls and more.

A local, all-volunteer organization, the Fanwood-Scotch Plains Service League operates the Thrift Shop with merchandise provided by donors who supply the store with good-quality items they no longer need. Clothing in all sizes, shoes, bric-a-brac, linens, household goods, toys, games, books, DVDs and more are constantly replenished.

All proceeds outside of store operating expenses are provided to local non-profit organizations or used for student scholarships.

Regular store hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. To learn more about the Fanwood-Scotch Plains Service League, volunteer opportunities and types of donations accepted, call the store during Thrift Shop business hours at (908) 322-5420.
