After a scoreless first half, the Cranford High School boys soccer team found out how to finish to defeat the New Providence Pioneers, 2-0, at Memorial Field in Cranford on September 19.
The 2-1-1 Pioneers took it to the 14 Cougars for the first 12 minutes of the first half but the game seemed to even out until the second half. Senior Matt Greene and junior Josh Ketschke each found the net, while co-captain Dave Guydon and junior Jabez Johnson each added an assist. Goalkeepers Matt Goldate andAiden Yuen made five saves and one save, respectively. Pioneer goalkeeper Steve Parker made six saves.
On September 21, the Cougars came through with its second win to outlast the Plainfield Cardinals, 3-2. Ketschke scored twice and added an assist, and Julien Beato scored once. Goldate recorded six saves. Elias Aceituno and Dan Lopez scored for the Cardinals.
