Elections 2023
Letters to the Editor
Councilman Scott Katz Ward 4 Candidate Westfield on
September 14, 2023
Elections 2023

The 4th Warder- Cooking With The Councilman

By now, those of you in Ward 4 should have received my 4th Warder magazine. I hope you enjoy learning a bit more about me personally. Please read through the Q&A, try your hand at the word search and take a look the photos on the back page which highlight many of the initiatives I have been involved with on behalf of Westfield.

If you did not receive the magazine please go to my website: KatzforWestfield.com and go to the Campaign News tab to view a pdf version. Included on the website is a QR code link to one of my favorite vinegar- based BBQ recipes.

The following is my Cooking with the Councilman piece.

As your councilman and a candidate, I focus my energies in Ward 4 and the town of Westfield mostly on running the town and addressing your needs as residents. Now, I’d like to take a moment to tell you a little bit more about me.

One of my interests is food and cooking, particularly barbecuing. I attended Tulane University, where I was introduced to the vibrant and diverse culture of New Orleans and its amazing food. It was not just the new flavors, but also the communal spirit around the food that resonated for me. Everyone there seems to share in the special “food culture.”

I’ll never forget when I had the honor of meeting Emeril Lagasse, whose recipes and larger than life personality contributed to my growing interest in the art of cooking.

Today, my favorite weekends consist of bringing my friends and family together to share great bbq, always with a side of my own special red beans and rice.

By sharing my love for BBQ, I invite others to connect with me on a personal level, fostering stronger community ties. Finding balance between my personal interests and public service has transformed me into a more effective and approachable town councilman.

As I continue to serve our town, I am committed to upholding this equilibrium and making a positive impact. I approach everything I do with dedication and enthusiasm, whether it is learning about the best trees to grow so they don’t hinder power lines or designing the safest route for Tour de Westfield. I am running for another term to continue to create a more vibrant future for Westfield.
