Swan Hotel ace pitcher Doug Fischer kept the visiting Deegan Roofing squad off the scoreboard for five straight innings and needed his teammates to deliver just one more RBI to end the game in five innings via 15run rule in a Union County Senior 60+ Men’s Softball League game at Memorial Field 3 in Linden on July 24. But after the run failed to be delivered, the Roofers plated three runs in the top of the sixth inning but the Swanies answered with four runs to claim an 18-3 triumph.
FISCHER TOSSES 5 SHUTOUT INNINGS, NARDELLO HR

But after the run failed to be delivered, the Roofers plated three runs in the top of the sixth inning but the Swanies answered with four runs to claim an 18-3 triumph.
Prior to the game, the Swan Hotel men were perched on top of the A Division with a 14-2 record, followed by Linwood II at 12-6 and Linwood 2 at 10-6-1, while Deegan Roofing trailed at 10-7-1. The victory would insure the high-flying defending champion Swan Men of the top seed for the playoffs that would begin in August.
During his shutout span, Fischer permitted just one hit in each of the first three innings and none in the other two before yielding the three runs on six hits and one walk in the sixth inning.Art Paradise led Deegan, going 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Rick Regenthal was also 2-for-2 with an RBI. Tom Donnolly had an RBI single and scored once. Sal Martino rapped an RBI single, Rob Hawk doubled, Pat Nigro singled and scored once, Don Miller singled once and Willie Jackson had the sole walk.
The Swan Hotel amassed 25 hits and five of the Swans recorded three hits. In his three at-bats, Marty Bernstein rapped three singles, scored twice and had an RBI. Fischer was 3for-3 with an RBI and run scored. John Garced was 3-for-4 with an RBI
