Scotch Plains Needs An Experienced Leader

Councilman Matt Adams is an outstanding public servant. I have observed his dedication to Scotch Plains as he seeks what is best for our town. He is a person of the highest integrity and you can depend on his word. His straightforward, direct style is uncommon in modern politics. Councilman Adams’ version of leadership is exactly what our town needs right now, as we face a transformational moment in our community’s history.

Matt is a great husband, father of three young boys, and accomplished attorney. Yet, while doing all of that at the relatively young age of 39, in just under seven months on the township council in an appointed capacity, he has also done some great things for the people of Scotch Plains.

He has led the charge to make giving our children the type of recreation spaces that they deserve a priority, while brokering out of the box methods to pay for necessary upgrades. He has also injected a shot of adrenaline into the long-awaited, but painfully delayed, revitalization of our downtown central business district. After being stalled for years, things are finally moving in the right direction. I am not naive to the fact that the groundwork for downtown redevelopment has been in the works for many years, but the process has hit an inflection point where qualified leadership is more critical than ever before. Now, more than ever, we need experience and a skill set like the one possessed by Matt. Perhaps most importantly, he has vocally stood up against the forces of hate, intolerance, and bigotry that would seek to exclude individuals from our community rather than welcome them with open arms. I have dedicated a good portion of my adult life to providing athletic programming for children with special needs, and Matt Adams is the type of ally to everyone that a community as diverse as ours needs. I can’t wait to see him do more.

If anyone is undecided about who to vote for in this year’s Scotch Plains Council Election, please go back and watch the debates, in particular the second one. Matt demonstrated his mastery of the issues, intelligence, professionalism, and dedication to our town. His slogan “Together Forward” says it all. Matt has the combination of intelligence and heart that make him a natural leader. I admire Councilman Adams for his leadership and service to our town. He is a role model for what public service is all about. I am proud to support his candidacy without any reservations, and I encourage you to do so as well. I have voted for Republicans and Democrats throughout my life, and know an effective leader when I see one.
