is invited to attend and to email questions in advance to the newspaper![]() ![]() Forum Assignments (newspaper staff) Fanwood: Moderator Fred Rossi; Timekeeper Ted Ritter; Reporter Catherine Watson Scotch Plains: Moderator Fred Rossi; Timekeeper Lauren Barr; Reporter Jason Kim Topics and Timeline: Posted here beforehand (on Tuesday) and all candidates then will be notified. The public is requested to email their topic requests by Monday morning. Fanwood Candidates Forum - View on Fanwood cable TV35 every night at 8 p.m. until Election Day - Details (published 2012-10-23 and provided to the candidates): Council Candidates: Incumbents(R) Mike Szuch and Bob Manduca; challengers(D) Dan Levine and Jack Molenaar - The format will be 2-minute direct response to questions with 1-minute rebuttal by opponent(s). Questions will rotate between the two parties and between the 2 candidates within each party. - Closing statements will be 3 minutes for each candidate. - There will be several times during the questioning when all four candidates will have equal time to answer the same question. - Topics will include: downtown development issues, consolidation with Scotch Plains, department mergers with Scotch Plains, municipal property taxes and the borough budget, senior citizens, personal experience and how it helps as a council member, county services and taxes. end... Scotch Plains Forum - - View on Scotch Plains cable TV from now until Election Day, check there for schedule. - Details (published 2012-10-23 and provided to the candidates): - Topics will include, depending on time: Downtown revitalization; Consolidation/merger with Fanwood; Municipal budget, services and property taxes; Sewer utility; Personal experience as a preparation for serving on council; Parks and recreation; Senior citizens; Shackamaxon sale; School parking; Cell towers and other sources of miscellaneous municipal revenue. - A coin toss at that time will determine the order of questions. The candidate who directly answers the first question will give the first closing statement; the candidate who provides a rebuttal to the first question will give the last closing statement. Council Candidates: The program will begin at 7:30 with the two candidates for township council: Democrat Colleen Gialanella and Republican Edward Saridaki. They will answer questions for approximately 20-30 minutes. Questions will alternate between the two candidates, with the candidate directly answering a question having up to two minutes to respond. The candidate rebutting will have up to one minute to reply. At the end of the Q&A, each candidate will have up to three minutes to deliver a closing statement. At the moderator’s discretion, the two minute/one minute format may be suspended for a round so that both candidates have equal time to respond to a question. Time will be kept and candidates will be forewarned when their time is running out and then again when their time has expired. ------------------ After the council candidates have finished, there will be a brief break during which the council candidates will depart the stage while Election Day information is provided to viewers and the audience. Mayoral Candidates: The program will then resume with the two candidates for mayor: Democrat Kevin Glover and Republican Mary DePaola. They will answer questions for approximately 30-45 minutes. Questions will alternate between the two candidates, with the candidate directly answering a question having up to two minutes to respond. The candidate rebutting will have up to one minute to reply. At the end of the Q&A, each candidate will have up to three minutes to deliver a closing statement. At the moderator’s discretion, the two minute/one minute format may be suspended for a round so that both candidates have equal time to respond to a question.
