2 Westfield Divers Die in Scuba Diving Accident; 3rd Survives

LOCAL ROOTSWestfield residents who drowned in a weekend scuba diving accident off Key Largo, Fla., had been instructors at Treasure Cove Watersports, a dive shop on South Avenue in Westfield. A third Westfield resident is the only survivor among the four divers on that trip.

WILD WEATHERAfter a string of days when temperatures rose above 50 degrees, a winter storm brought snow, sleet and ice to the area last Thursday and Friday.

REMEMBERING OUR TROOPSNearly 100 people attended a candlelight vigil at Mindowaskin Park Monday evening. The event marked the fourth anniversary of the U.S. action in Iraq. The ceremony consisted of readings from soldiers and family members of soldiers who served. It was one of almost 1,100 events nationally, coordinated by Warren Rorden and Nancy Boss organized the local event.

Government Reform Thoughts

In New Jersey, government health care and retirement benefits should be provided only to fulltime employees. We call for an end to the pervasive abuse by part time political appointees. - See year-to-date reform thoughts.
