July 2, 2009: SUMMIT - Overlook Hospital's Blood Donor Services encourages community members to donate blood. It is urgently needed to save lives. Blood is always in particularly short supply in the summer as many donors are on vacation and unable to donate; with platelets frequently difficult to obtain. Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with appropriate written consent from a parent or legal guardian) and weigh 110 pounds and be in good health. Teenage female donors may also be subject to additional height/weight restrictions. People over 75 can continue to donate blood if they meet all donor criteria and present a physician's letter allowing them to donate. There are, however, some medical conditions that can keep someone from giving blood. These guidelines are set by federal, state and local health agencies to protect both donors and patients. Walk-ins are always welcome. The Blood Donor Service is located in a new department off of the main hospital lobby. For appointments, or questions about donor eligibility, call the Overlook Hospital Blood Donor Service at 908-522-3509.

July 2, 2009: This year’s annual ride for freedom will be on September 20th, 2009. As is the past, this freedom ride will be in honor of POW/MIA Recognition Day. POW/MIA Recognition Day is a day of remembrance and hope for the speedy and safe return of American Prisoners of War, and those still missing in Action. It also seeks the return of the remains of fallen Soldiers. The first official commemoration of POW/MIAs was July 18, 1979. It was the result of resolutions passed in Congress. The first national ceremony was held on this date. Over the next several years, it was held in varying dates of the year. Finally, in 1986, The National League of Families proposed the third Friday in September as a day to recognize and remember POW/MIAs. This date was selected, as it is not associated with any wars. Each year, the president of the United States issues a proclamation on this day. July 1, 2009:

On July 16th, President Barack Obama will join me at Rutgers University in New Brunswick to help to kick our campaign into a whole new gear. A Corzine 09 Rally Featuring President Barack Obama and Governor Jon Corzine Thursday, July 16th. Voorhees Mall, Rutgers University in New Brunswick Additional details and start-time to be announced soon. Click here to RSVP for your FREE tickets.

President Obama isn't just a close friend of mine; he's a great friend to our state. After eight long years, we finally have a partner in Washington who shares our values and vision for a more progressive New Jersey. Together, we are creating green jobs, providing universal access to healthcare for kids, protecting the most vulnerable among us, and ensuring all our children have access to a quality education -- regardless of where they live. We are doing all of this despite a challenging worldwide economic crisis, and I'm proud of the great progress that Barack Obama and I have already have made. But we still have more to do, and with a partner in Washington who shares our values and priorities, I'm confident in what we can accomplish in the next four years. I'm honored that President Obama will be on hand in New Jersey to recognize the important work we're doing, and I hope you will join us.

July 1, 2009: Trenton - Yesterday was one of my proudest days as Governor of this great state. Presented with the most difficult economic times that New Jersey – indeed this entire nation – has faced in generations, my Democratic colleagues in the state legislature and I produced a balanced state budget on time and with substantial property tax relief for the working families of New Jersey. I'm proud to have signed a 2010 budget for New Jersey that: Returns a tax amnesty windfall to taxpayers. Remains as fiscally responsible as my other budgets. Honors our progressive values. Continues to rein in property taxes. Over four budget years, my administration has provided $7 billion in direct property tax relief – 35% more than the previous four-year period and more than double the amount of the last Republican administration. We did this the right way – with transparency, public participation and broad input. But more important that how we did it, was what we did: We made the right choices for the working families of our state and came up with a workable budget under the most trying circumstances any of us has faced. June 29, 2009: Trenton - Christie, The Real Corzine Budget What you didn't hear at today's budget signing... CORZINE BUDGET BY THE NUMBERS... $10 billion deficit for FY2011 $1.2 billion in new taxes and fees for New Jerseyans. 1.2 million taxpayers won't receive rebates in FY 2010. According to Rutgers economist James Hughes, all are almost guaranteed to see an increase from 3 to 4 percent in their property taxes (David Matthau, "New State Budget Will Whack the Typical Jersey Family, Millennium Radio, 06/25/09). By the pockets of New Jersey taxpayers... In FY2010, Governor Corzine's budget will make the tax burden even heavier by making the taxpayers pay these new taxes and fines: $970 million for the elimination of tax rebates. $903 million for income tax rate increases. $400 million for tax increase on employers for unemployment program. $270 million for corporate business tax increase. $100 million for the elimination of property tax deduction. $37 million for health insurance tax increases. $30 million for cigarette tax increases. $24 million for wine and liquor tax increases. $20 million for DMV fees. $8 million for taxing lottery winnings increase. By the future shortfalls... In the FY2010 budget, Governor Corzine's reliance on one-shot gimmicks will put New Jersey in even worse shape for FY2011. Take a look at the voids that we will have to fill in FY2011 because of Jon Corzine's misguided priorities in FY2010. $2.5 billion in deferred pension payments from FY2010. $2.2 billion in federal stimulus funds that will not be available in FY2011. $1 billion to fill the gap left from expired "one-time" tax increases. $600 million to fill the gap left from the one-time tax amnesty collection. $500 million in deferred property tax rebates. $450 million in deferred debt payments. $300 million to balance raided trust funds and dedicated funds. www.ChristieforNJ.com - by Chris Christie for Governor, Inc - Ronald Gravino, Treasurer

16:09 June 29, 2009

June 29, 2009: Trenton - Corzine and Dems should apologize to the middle class for the new budget, not praise themselves. Assemblyman David Wolfe, R-Ocean and Monmouth, a member of the Assembly Budget Committee, issued the following statement today following Governor Jon Corzine’s signing of the state’s Fiscal Year 2010 budget: "With the stroke of a pen, Governor Corzine signed into law today a new budget the horrific ramifications of which will be felt immediately and far into the future by New Jersey’s middle class families and business community. “To have the governor and Democrat leaders spin this patchwork spending plan as some sort of panacea for our beleaguered middle class taxpayers is disingenuous and appalling. Instead of patting themselves on the back, they should be apologizing to taxpayers. It’s easy to balance a budget with new and increased taxes, raids on dedicated funds and deferrals. But it takes real leadership and courage to challenge and change the status quo, something they have been unwilling to do as the majority party. “Governor Corzine’s ‘ live for today’ and ‘eat, drink and be merry’ attitude towards governing will continue to haunt our middle class and business community for years to come. While the governor and his party leaders celebrate this budget, I mourn for the added suffering and misery it will inflict on a population decimated by years of irresponsible, self-serving and unaffordable government.”

The corrections officer supervising the pair secured the other inmate and radioed for backup. There is an active manhunt being conducted through the county. Phillip_Ruddy.jpg

June 26, 2009: TRENTON – Bill S-2829 establishing campaign finance and disclosure standards and debate rules for New Jersey’s new Lieutenant Governor position was approved by the Senate by a vote of 39-0 and the Assembly Thursday by a vote of 66-12, with one abstention. It now heads to the Governor to be signed into law. “This November, voters in New Jersey will go to the polls for the first time to vote for a leadership team, not just a Governor,” said Senator Scutari, D-Linden. We need to ensure that the candidates running under the Governor, this November and into the future, are subject to the same reporting, spending and contribution limits as other candidates for office in the Garden State.” Under the bill, candidates running for Governor and Lieutenant Governor would be treated as one candidate for the purposes of campaign contribution and expenditure limits and public financing eligibility. The bill would also clarify that candidates running for Lieutenant Governor would be subject to the same financial disclosure requirements, issue advocacy disclosure requirements, and anti-pay-to-play laws that apply to gubernatorial candidates in New Jersey. The bill would also require that any Lieutenant Governor candidate receiving public financing to participate in one debate during the course of the election.

June 25, 2009: Trenton - Assembly Republican Leader Alex DeCroce said today no further evidence is needed to show that Democrats are deaf to the pleas of middle class New Jerseyans to reform the way state government operates as they literally ignored constituent letters read by Republicans during the budget vote. Despite efforts by Republicans to raise Democrat awareness of how their tax and spend approach to governing is hurting the middle class, the $29 billion fiscal 2010 budget was passed by the General Assembly by a 45-34 vote. “Republicans spoke on behalf of the hard-working New Jersey taxpayers and gave them a voice during the budget debate,” said DeCroce. “We are listening to their concerns and wanted to make sure their feelings were conveyed. “This budget is breaking the backs and spirits of many people in the state,” continued DeCroce. “The Democrats needed to hear that not everyone believes their spin that they operate a bare-boned government. We spoke on behalf of the ‘silent majority’ and were proud to do so.” Below are excepts from constituent letters Assembly Republican caucus members read during yesterday’s General Assembly voting session: "New Jersey government must stop the wasteful spending. We as individuals have been forced to cut back. The state must do likewise.” – Florence from West Milford "Unless the economic situation in New Jersey improves, we will soon have to leave the state of our birth. My wife and I have lived here eighty and seventy-six years respectively. To pick up roots now, and leave will be difficult, but necessary.” – Ted from South Brunswick "Property taxes continue to rise, and there is no way we will be able to stay in New Jersey…I could just go on and on...You have really made a mess of things.” -- Mary from Marlboro "The cost of living for my wife and me, who are now retired and in our late seventh decade, has become both astronomical and unbearable. We were born, lived and worked in New Jersey all our lives, only to now discover we can no longer afford to live here. The property taxes are destroying our way of life.” –Theodore from Dayton "This state is in chaos...I have not worked for over a year as finding a credible company and viable employment is nearly impossible. (You) are just killing the state and its people...What a disaster! Stop spending money we don’t have. It’s simple, it works. Why don’t we try that?” -- Michelle from Cliffside Park "I survive - not live - on a fixed income as the result of a major reorganization at my previous employer...The cost of living in this state has outpaced my income to the point that I have had to draw from my IRA. Why don't I hear anything concrete about serious cuts across the board within the administration?” -- Bernard from Dover

June 25, 2009: Trenton - N.J. Assembly approves $29B state budget with tax increases. The Assembly today approved a $29 billion spending plan by a vote of 45 to 34 mostly along party lines. Democrats praised it but Republicans criticized. It now moves (5 p.m.) to the Senate for consideration. Assembly Republican Whip Jon Bramnick of Westfield said, "I will vote ‘no’ today because this budget layers on more and more tax increases, and is choking the working class families as they struggle in these already difficult economic times. The new hikes include tax increases on cigarettes, liquor, rental cars, wines and even NJ Lottery winnings over $10,000. We're actually taxing people who get lucky in this state. We're off the charts now."

June 12, 2009: Trenton - Two legislative committees are scheduled to vote on Gov. Jon Corzine’s $28.6 billion budget on Monday and as of Friday afternoon the Democrats who control state government were still keeping taxpayers in the dark about the details. Assembly Republican Leader Alex DeCroce angrily condemned Corzine and the Democrats for failing to live up to their repeated promise that there would be greater transparency in the budget process and keeping the public informed would be a top priority. “When did budget ‘transparency’ become ‘invisibility?’” demanded DeCroce, R-Morris and Passaic. “It’s bad enough that Corzine and the Democrats are going to approve a budget that hangs taxpayers out to dry, but to do it in this manner is an outrage. “Budget ‘transparency’ doesn’t mean dropping a multi-billion dollar budget in the laps of the people’s representatives at the last moment and demand a vote even without adequate time to analyze its components,” said DeCroce, R-Morris and Passaic. “Expediency should never replace meaningful and constructive debate, especially when dealing with a budget that inflicts so much pain on taxpayers.” DeCroce said taxpayers should be “very suspicious” of the motives behind the decision of the Democrats to withhold the details until the last minute. “Maybe they are afraid that if they give taxpayers time to digest the budget they will get sick to their stomach.”

June 8, 2009: Trenton - Bramnick Dual Office Ban Bill Nixed. Assembly Republican Whip Jon Bramnick and Assemblywoman Mary Pat Angelini believe that the Pension and Health Benefits Review Commission (PHBRC) should rethink its decision not to consider their legislation that would ban dual office holding for current members of the Legislature. The commission, which is scheduled to meet on June 19, removed the bill from its agenda today (June 8), stating that the bill had been decertified for review by the PHBRC. “I believe that there is strong public support for ending dual office holding by sitting members of the Legislature,” said Mr. Bramnick of Westfield (LD-21). “The financial impact of elected officials occupying more than one office makes it appropriate for the commission to hear this bill. This issue needs to be vetted and the PHBRC is a suitable forum to do so.” The commission had initially placed the Bramnick bill, A-2456, and its Senate companion, S-769, which is sponsored by Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean, on its schedule. “There has been much talk about this issue, but little action by the Legislature that would put it front and center,” stated Ms. Angelini, R-Monmouth. On April 7, 2008, the Senate tabled a motion to relieve Senator Kean’s bill and allow it to be heard, and the Assembly version has been rebuffed twice when offered as floor amendments. Mr. Bramnick and Ms. Angelini also noted that the Joint Committee on Public Employee Benefits Reform has already recommended a ban.

June 5, 2009: PARSIPPANY, Chris Christie released the following statement regarding the contract agreement by Governor Corzine and the Communication Workers of America (CWA) union: "This agreement illustrates all that is wrong with Governor Corzine's timid style of governing. First, he was bullied into a bad deal costing taxpayers tens of millions of dollars. Just as bad, he tried to pretend that this deal represents savings when all it does is pass along higher costs to taxpayers in the years to come. While Governor Rell of Connecticut got hundreds of millions in savings from her public employees, Governor Corzine has once again sold out taxpayers for his public employee union friends. As Governor, I will not be bound by this deceptive election year deal which once again hurts New Jersey taxpayers. I will impose the tough decisions Jon Corzine is unwilling to make for New Jersey." www.ChristieforNJ.com Paid for by Chris Christie for Governor, Inc Ronald Gravino, Treasurer
