Lieutenant Jake Kramer, a Westfield High School graduate, returned from Iraq Tuesday, March 31.
His street, Channing Avenue, was lined with onlookers young and old who welcomed back their friend, neighbor and relative.
Lt. Kramer, upon arriving, was met by a police entourage that escorted him to his home as horns blared and sirens whirled.
After exchanging embraces with his father, Ethan Kramer, and his father’s significant other, Kim Kay, the lieutenant chatted with The Westfield Leader, Mayor Andy Skibitsky, Town Administrator Jim Gildea and Councilman Mark Ciarrocca.
Overwhelmed, Lt. Kramer, said he was not only overcome by the attention but by the police presence. He smiled, telling Fire Chief Dan Kelly and Westfield firefighters that he thought he was “in trouble” upon seeing squad cars follow suit after his father turned down his street.
Lt. Kramer is taking his midterm break from Iraq, where he has served for the last seven and a half months.
