Westfield Symphony Orchestra 25th Gala By David Samsky April 26, 2008

Gov. Kean Serves as Guest of Honor at WSO Gala

WESTFIELD –Thomas Kean, the 48th Governor of New Jersey, was the guest of honor at this season's Westfield Symphony Orchestra (WSO) Silver Anniversary Gala.

The black-tie celebration was held on Saturday, April 26, at Plainfield Country Club in Edison and featured a gourmet dinner, silent and live auctions, and dancing to the sounds of a 10-piece live band.

"We were thrilled that Governor Kean joined us for our Silver Anniversary celebration," remarked WSO founding member Jane Kelly.

“Over the past 25 years, the Westfield Symphony has grown in both quality and reputation, and is now recognized as one of New Jersey's premiere arts organizations. It's a remarkable achievement,” she added.

In his keynote speech, Gov. Kean made reference to the musical excellence of the WSO and the fact that it is rare for a community the size of Westfield to boast a professional musical experience of this caliber.

"The strong artistic presence of the WSO adds real social and financial value to the town of Westfield and beyond," he noted. "Because we were observing our 25th silver anniversary, this was an incredibly special event for Westfield Symphony," said Gala Chair Jane Francz.

“We have come a long way, and we wanted to celebrate in style. We can't thank everyone enough," said Music Director David Wroe.

“The outcome of the gala was marvelous. Thanks to our gala chairs Jane Francz, Jane Kelly and Carolyn Fleder, not only was this a phenomenal birthday party, the proceeds from this outstanding fundraising event will make possible next season's adventurous music programs as well as our expanded outreach and educational initiatives."
