The Westfield Leader has been published weekly since 1890. The Scotch Plains Times has been published weekly since 1959. Microfilm archives of The Westfield Leader back to 1904 are available at the Westfield Memorial Library. Microfilm archives (and recently converted searchable pdf files, 1963 to 1989) of The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Times back to 1959 are available at the Scotch Plains Public Library. We have converted the complete set of This Is Westfield from 1973 to the present. Soon, (goal is March, 2008), the pdf archives will be available for purchased here. We will apply these funds to converting The Westfield Leader 1904 to 1997 microfilm archives to pdf (estimated out-of-pocket cost is $20,000 plus our staff costs). This web site (goleader.com) was established on 12/31/96. It is updated weekly in synch with the printed newspapers each Thursday. Since then, our newspapers, other publications and special features are available here. Most items are in PDF format. The newspapers can be retrieved by date of publication. An example address is: www.goleader.com/05mar10 where the date is a Thursday, corresponding to publication date. This site can be Searched. Archives prior to October, 1997 on this site are not complete.
The site organization has evolved over the years. There is a conventional html page for each week with a link to download the newspaper for that week as a pdf file. Unique information is available at Features, Photos and Video. Site navigation methods have evolved, but links are generally self explanatory and active. For more information, please see HELP. |
