and Radhiaka Ramaswany, both of Scotch Plains, were among other Union County residents who participated in the Dublin Marathon in Dublin, Ireland as a part of New Jersey’s Joints in Motion Team on October 26 to raise money for the Arthritis Foundation, New Jersey Chapter.

Over 900 people from across the nation traveled to Dublin to participate. The marathon raised over $1 million for arthritis research.

Participants began an 18week training program with fitness experts in June to prepare for the marathon.

In Ireland, participants and trainers enjoyed six days and five nights at one of four hotels in the heart of Dublin City, a special Joints in Motion pasta party, a marathon “power,” breakfast and a Monday local sightseeing tour.

“It took a lot of hard work and dedication for all the runners and walkers to finish the race, and they should feel proud about their accomplishment,”

said Dennis Hirschfelder President of the Arthritis Foundation.

“What they did was good for their own health, as well as the health of the millions of people afflicted with arthritis,” he stated.

The Foundation is currently looking to recruit runners and recruiters for the Joints in Motion Training Team for the Dublin Marathon on Monday, October 25, and the San Francisco Marathon on Sunday, July 11.

The Arthritis Foundation, New Jersey Chapter funds arthritis research and offers programs for people with arthritis and their families including support groups, exercise classes, selfhelp courses, information and referral service and free public forums on arthritis.

For more information on how to become a team member, how to sponsor a runner, or to learn more about the foundation’s offerings, please call the New Jersey Chapter at (732) 2834300 or write to: Arthritis Foundation, New Jersey Chapter, 200 Middlesex Turnpike, Iselin, 088302000.
