Miss Kirsten Conover Weds Donald Springer
Mr. and Mrs. Neilson Conover of Sarasota, Fla. and Northport, Me., formerly of Westfield, recently hosted the marriage of their daughter, Miss Kirsten Conover, to Donald Alan Springer of Boston. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Springer of Colorado.
The couple was married on Sunday, July 4, in a Congregational ceremony at the Vesper Hill open air Chapel overlooking Penobscot Bay in Rockport, Me.
After the couple took their vows, the chapel bell was rung, signaling a Scottish piper from a glen area in full dress to begin the ceremonial heralding of the newlyweds.
A string trio from the Bangor Symphony Orchestra performed during cocktails and dinner at the Samoset Ocean Front Resort in Rockport.

Scaturo Family Welcomes Twins
Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Scaturo of Cranford have announced the birth of their twins, a son and a daughter, on Thursday, July 29, at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Gregory James Scaturo, who was born at 11: 10 a. m., weighed 5 pounds and 3 ounces and measured 18 inches in length at birth.
Hannah Leigh Scaturo, who was born at 11: 12 a. m., weighed 5 pounds and measured 18 inches in length at birth.
The twins join their brother, Brett, age 31/ 2.
Their mother, the former Laurie Smith of Westfield, is employed by the Westfield Board of Education as the transitional kindergarten teacher at Tamaques Elementary School in Westfield.
The children’s maternal grandparents are Dottie and Bob Smith of Westfield.
Their paternal grandparents are Frann and Charlie Scaturo of Cranford.

Marianna J. L. Clausen and David W. Clausen of Fanwood have announced the birth of their son, Dante Vincent L. Clausen, on Monday, July 12, at 3: 23 p. m. at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Dante weighed 7 pounds and 14 ounces and measured 203/ 4 inches in length at birth.
He joins his sister, Ashley Elizabeth, age 3.
His maternal grandmother is Josephine Librandy of Scotch Plains.
Dante’s paternal grandparents are Doug and Jane Clausen of Fanwood.

Redeemer Lutheran to Offer Annual BacktoSchool Service
WESTFIELD — Redeemer Lutheran Church and School will hold its annual “BacktoSchool” Worship Service on Wednesday, September 8, from 7: 30 to 8: 15 p. m.
“The national events of this past school year revealed that many people need and want the opportunity to pray for our schools, teachers and students,” observed The Reverend Paul Kritsch, pastor of the congregation. “Although the public schools cannot offer such an opportunity, we as a Christian church with our own school can. 1999 marks the fifth September we’ve invited the community to join us in prayer for a new school year.”

WESTFIELD — The Presbyterian Church in Westfield, located at 140 Mountain Avenue, will kick off its program year with a Rally Day celebration on Sunday, September 12, at 9: 15 a. m. in Assembly Hall.
The theme of the celebration will be “Prayers from the Ark,” as children in preschool through fifth grade explore the story of Noah’s Ark from a variety of perspectives; drama, art, science and mission, along with other topics.
Parents and adults of all ages are invited to participate. The morning event will also include an adult Bible study on the story in the Christian Lounge.
The program will conclude with a musical program presented by soprano Randi Marrazzo, who has sung leading roles with national opera companies and has taught voice at the University of Delaware and West Chester University.

Bishop E. Roy Riley to Speak At Faith Lutheran Church
NEW PROVIDENCE — E. Roy Riley, Bishop of the New Jersey Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), is slated to speak at Faith Lutheran Church in New Providence on Sunday, September 12.
The Bishop will preach at both the 8: 30 a. m. and 11 a. m. liturgies. These services will also feature special music, played by Jack Stuckey, a professional jazz clarinetist.
In addition, the Bishop will be speaking during the education hour, beginning at 9: 40 a. m., on current issues in the New Jersey Synod, as well as those facing the ELCA.

Immaculate Heart of Mary To Hold SignUp Weekend
SCOTCH PLAINS – The Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains will host “SignUp Weekend” on Saturday and Sunday, September 11 and 12, for people wishing to take part in RENEW 2000, a worldwide program celebrating the new millennium.
RENEW 2000 is a process of spiritual renewal during which people will meet in small groups of 8 to 12 to reflect on the scriptures, share their faith, and pray as a community.
The upcoming session, the third of five RENEW 2000 sessions to be
held throughout the year 2000, will run from Monday, October 4, to Friday, November 12.
During SignUp Weekend, following all masses, people may sign up to join a small group. The groups will meet once a week for six weeks. Participants may choose from among several meeting, days and times. Each meeting will last approximately an hour and a half.

People for Animals Sponsors Casino Trip
HILLSIDE — People for Animals, a nonprofit animal welfare organization serving New Jersey, will sponsor a bus trip to the Showboat Casino in Atlantic City on Saturday, September 25.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the People for Animals pet rescue and adoption program.
A donation of $25 per person is requested, which includes $17 in coins, motor coach transportation and lunch, games and prizes on the bus. The bus will depart at noon from the Union Township municipal parking lot, where free parking is provided.
