Stanley Zachai, 84, of New Vernon died on Tuesday, October 5, in Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown.
Born in Jersey City, he lived in Mountainside for 23 years before moving to New Vernon 20 years ago.
Mr. Zachai was an engineer with Killam Associates Consulting Engineers in Millburn for many years before retiring in 1990.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Zachai; a brother, John Zachai; three sisters, Helen Stewart, Irene Rice and Lottie Alama and two grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, October 9, in the Church of Christ the King in New Vernon.
Arrangements were handled by the Doyle Funeral Home in Morristown.

Ruth F. Deegan, 71, Former Secretary At Family Investors, Inc. in Fanwood
Ruth F. Ryan Deegan, 71, of Scotch Plains died on Wednesday, October 13, at home.
Born and raised in Bayridge, Brooklyn, she lived in Scotch Plains for the last 39 years.
Mrs. Deegan was an executive secretary with CIT Group, Factoring Division in New York City for 12 years before retiring in 1990. Prior to that, she had been an executive secretary at Family Investors, Inc. in Fanwood for many years.
She was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.

Richard Carlson, 78, Was Navy Veteran; Office Manager for County Prosecutor
Richard Carlson, 78, of Elizabeth died on Friday, October 15, in St. Elizabeth Hospital in Elizabeth.
Born in Elizabeth, he had lived in Scotch Plains for 20 years before moving back to Elizabeth.
Mr. Carlson was an office manager for the Union County Prosecutor’s Office in Elizabeth for six years.
Prior to that, he had owned the Richard J. Carlson Insurance Agency in Elizabeth for 12 years and was the insurance manager of R. E. Scott Company in Westfield for 25 years.
He was a member of the Independent Insurance Agents Association of New Jersey and the Insurance Advisory Committee of Union County and Elizabeth.
He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II and served as a petty officer aboard the USS Cobia
submarine. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Cranford Post and the USS Cobia Veterans Association.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Denton Palmer; a son, R. Jeffrey Carlson; a daughter, Janet C. Carlson; a stepson, David R. Palmer; a sister,
Carmen DeCato, 77, Financial Consultant For United Daniels Company in New York
Carmen M. DeCato, 77, of East Stroudsburg, Pa., died on Thursday, October 14, in East Stroudsburg.
Born in Paterson, he had lived in Newark, Fanwood and Cranford before moving to East Stroudsburg 13 years ago.
Mr. DeCato was a financial principal consultant for the United Daniels Company in New York City. Prior to that, he had been a financial principal for the Pressman, Frohelich and Frost stock brokerage firm and for Northfield Investments.
He was a United States Army Air Corps veteran and served as a staff sergeant during World War II.
He graduated from Tri-State University in Angola, Ind.
Mr. DeCato was Treasurer of the Gran Centurians and a member of the Elks Lodge No. 2602.
Surviving are his wife, Stefani DeCato; a son, Michael DeCato; a daughter, Suzanne Fordham; a sister, Rose How, and a grandchild. Helen Koerner, and five grandchil
dren. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 19, at the Leonard Home for Funerals in Elizabeth.

Ralph Monte, Sr., 71, Army Veteran; Was Known for Portrait Paintings
Ralph Monte, Sr., 71, of Scotch Plains died on Friday, October 15, in Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born in Queens, he had lived in Rahway for 35 years before moving
to Scotch Plains nine years ago. Mr. Monte had been a parts man with Quality Auto Body in Rahway for 10 years, retiring in 1992. Prior to that, he had worked for Hoffman Equipment in Highland Park for eight years and for Caterpillar in Mountainside for 20 years.
He served in the United States Army during peacetime as a medic in Japan.
He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local No. 825 in Newark.
Mr. Monte was a well-known painter in the Union County area, specializing in portraits of people and pets.
Surviving are two sons, Ralph Monte, Jr. and Thomas Monte; a daughter, Teresa Hamel; a brother, Joseph Monte; two sisters, Theresa Whalen and Winifred Breslawski, and seven grandchildren.
A Mass was offered on Monday, October 18, in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Rahway, following the funeral from the LehrerGibilisco Funeral Home, also in Rahway. Interment was at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery in Colonia.

Angela M. Meister, 89, Bookkeeper; Active With Area Church Groups
Angela M. Meister, 89, of New Providence died on Wednesday, October 13, in Glenside Nursing Home in New Providence.
Born in Newark, she had lived in Vailsburg, Union and Mountainside before moving to New Providence a year ago.
Miss Meister had been a bookkeeper for Kenny Press in Newark before retiring in 1974.
She was a member of the Rosary Society of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Vailsburg and a member of the Court Immaculate
Heart of Mary Council No. 1360 Catholic Daughters of America in Union.
She was also a member of the Benedictine Mother’s League of St. Abbey in Morristown and the senior citizens of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Union.
Surviving is a sister, Gertrude E. Meister.
A Mass was offered on Saturday, October 16, in St. Michael’s Church following the funeral from the Haeberle & Barth Colonial Home in Union.

Alice W. Salvato
Alice Weidenbacher Salvato of Madison, Conn., previously of Westfield and Brick, died on Tuesday, October 12.
Mrs. Salvato was active in the Westfield Garden Club and The Children’s Specialized Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the Mountainside Presbyterian Church and a long-time member of the church choir.
She was predeceased by a brother, Ken Richter, and two sisters, Katherine Spalding and Jean Berry.
Surviving are her husband, Charles Salvato; two daughters, Sally Scott Stedman of Guilford, Conn. and Nancy Boyd of Waterford, Mich.; a son, Drew Weidenbacher of Bellingham, Wash.; and six grandchildren.
A Memorial Service was held on Sunday, October 17, at Mountainside Presbyterian Church.
Arrangements were handled by the Guilford Funeral Home in Guilford, Conn.

Zachary Evan Feldman, 15, of Westfield died on Wednesday, October 13, at Rahway Hospital in Rahway.
Born in Staten Island, he lived in Somerset before moving to Westfield 11 years ago.
Zachary was a student at The ECLC School in Chatham. He was active with the Gateway Social Group in Summit.
Surviving are his parents, Robert H. and Diane M. Feldman; a brother, Benjamin E. Feldman; a sister, Allison J. Feldman, and his paternal grandparents, Florence and Abner Feldman of Manhattan, N.Y.
A Funeral Service was held on Friday, October 15, at Temple Emanu-El in Westfield. Burial was at The Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge.

John E. Bell, 81, of Toms River died on Friday, October 8, in the Community Medical Center in Toms River.
Born in Newark, he lived in Westfield before moving to Toms River.
Mr. Bell was the owner of New Raritan Liquors in Keansburg for 20 years before retiring in 1979.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his son, Dr. John E. Bell, and five grandchildren.

James W. Rebuth, 57, Former Owner Of JR Consulting for Many Years
James W. Rebuth, 57, of Scotch Plains died on Thursday, October 14, at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Floral Park, N.Y., he grew up in North Plainfield. He had lived in South Plainfield for 20 years and Scotch Plains for the past year.
Mr. Rebuth owned JR Consulting for more than 20 years.
He was a former member of the South Plainfield Jr. Baseball Club, where he was a longtime team manager and coach.
Surviving are his daughter, Sherrill Rebuth-Machcinski of Jackson; a son, Shane Rebuth of South Plainfield; his parents, Ralph and Janet Rebuth of Scotch Plains; three sisters, Barbara Malone of North Carolina, Susan D’Alessandro and Marianne Aiello, both of South Plainfield; two brothers, Michael Rebuth of Scotch Plains and Richard Rebuth of Miami, Fla., and two grandsons.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, October 16, at the McCriskin
Home for Funerals in South Plainfield. Interment took place at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.

Frank C. Hauser, 77
Frank C. Hauser, 77, died on Saturday, October 16, in Rahway Hospital.
Born and raised in Irvington, he lived in Westfield for the last 45 years.
Mr. Hauser was a United States Air Corps veteran of World War II and served as a Corporal with the 360th Fighter Group during the campaigns of Air Offensive Europe, Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Central Europe and Rhineland.
He worked in the sales department of Westinghouse Electrical Corporation in Bloomfield for 42 years, retiring in 1983.
Surviving are his wife, Theresa Richetti Hauser; a daughter, Patricia A. Bjorklund of Warren, and two grandsons.
A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, October 19, at the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue, Westfield. Interment was held at Graceland Memorial Park in Kenilworth.

Winifred M. Merkle, 64, Was Employed As Registered Nurse at Overlook Hospital
Winifred M. Merkle, 64, of Scotch Plains died on Sunday, October 17, at home.
Born in Elizabeth, she lived in Union before moving to Scotch Plains in 1965.
Mrs. Merkle graduated from the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Newark in 1955. She was a Registered Nurse. She worked at Overlook Hospital in Summit as an
Operating Room Nurse; the Burlington County Visiting Nurses Association; Rubberset Company in Newark as an Industrial Nurse; Residential Home Care Nursing in Union County as a Visiting Nurse, and most recently at Fair Oaks/Charter Hospital in Summit as a Psychiatric Nurse.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Westfield and the Alumni Association of the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Newark.
Surviving are her husband, Dr. F. Henry Merkle; her mother, Margaret Broeker; two daughters, Lisa A. Koley and Amy E. McElrath; her son, Frederick B. Merkle; a sister, Marlene Wirth of Scotch Plains, and two granddaughters.
A Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 23, at 10 a.m.
Arrangements are being handled by the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue, Fanwood.

George J. Germinder, 92, of Fanwood died on Monday, October 18, at the Clark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clark.
Born in Dickson City, Pa., he lived in Elizabeth before moving to Fanwood in 1953.
Mr. Germinder was a woodworker with Reisen Lumber Company in Union, retiring in 1971.
He was a member of the Carpenters Union No. 821 in Kenilworth.
He was predeceased by his wife, Lucille Germinder, in 1985.
Surviving are two sons, George E. Germinder and Robert Germinder, both of Fanwood; a sister, Anna Trippeidi of Yuma, Ariz.; nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be from the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue, Fanwood, today, Thursday, October 21, at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, Martine Avenue, Scotch Plains, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Rosedale Memorial Park in Linden.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fanwood Rescue Squad or a charity of one’s choice.

Daniel A. Buonanno, 75, a lifelong resident of Westfield, died on Friday, October 15, at home.
He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Mr. Buonanno worked for many years for the United States Postal Service in Westfield at various positions before retiring many years ago.
Surviving are two brothers, Ralph Buonanno of Toms River and Rudy Buonanno of Garwood; and a sister, Madeline Buonanno of Westfield.
A Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, October 19, in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield. Interment was held at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.

Peter Francaviglia, 76
Peter Charles Francaviglia, 76, of Westfield died on Saturday, October 16, in Elizabeth General Hospital in Elizabeth.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was raised in Elizabeth and lived in Rahway before moving to Westfield in 1953.
Mr. Francaviglia was a machinist and group leader at Singer Manufacturing, Inc. in Elizabeth for 43 years, retiring in 1981.
He was a United States Navy veteran of both Korean War and World War II.
Mr. Francaviglia was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, the Singer’s Veterans Association and the John L. Ruddy Post No. 7363 Veterans of Foreign War in Clark.
Surviving are his wife, Josephine Francaviglia; a daughter, Roseanne Pielhau; three sons, Peter Charles Francaviglia, Jr., Mark Francaviglia and David Francaviglia, and a grandchild.
A Funeral Liturgy was held on Monday, October 18, at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church in Elizabeth.

Kenneth E. Williams, 76, Army Veteran; Founded Williams Termite Control, Inc.
Kenneth Edward Williams, 76, of Sarasota, Fla. died on Sunday, October 17.
Born in Raleigh, N.C., he lived in Elizabeth and Flemington before moving to Sarasota 10 years ago.
Mr. Williams founded Williams Termite Control, Inc. in 1961.
He attended Union County College in New Jersey.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army.
Mr. Williams served as Secretary of the New Jersey Pest Control Association for many years. He was also a gun collector with an extensive collection of Smith and Wesson firearms and served as Secretary for the New Jersey Arms Collector’s Club.
He was a life member of Kiwanis International and was responsible for the formation of both the Westfield and Scotch Plains clubs. He was President of the Westfield Kiwanis Club in 1961 and Lieutenant Governor for his district in 1965.
Mr. Williams was also a member of the Antique Toy Collectors of America.
Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Alice S. Williams; two sons, Ken
neth E. Williams of Ringoes and Keith E. Williams of Summerland Key, Fla.; a daughter, Lynda Miller of Sarasota; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Service was offered on Tuesday, October 19, at Palms Funeral Home in Sarasota. Burial was held at Palms Memorial Park.

Angelo Perrucci, 72, Army Veteran; Was Co-Owner of Paving Company
Angelo Perrucci, 72, of Mansfield Township, died on Monday, October 11, at Hackettstown Community Hospital in Hackettstown.
Born in Scotch Plains, he moved to Mansfield Township 36 years ago.
Mr. Perrucci was the former coowner, with his brother, of the Warren Limestone Paving Company in Phillipsburg and worked for Penn Jersey Paving Company in Bangor, Pa.
He was a United States Army vet

Elizabeth T. Fogerty, 82, of Holland, Pa., died on Thursday, October 14, at home.
Born in Woodbridge, she had lived in Elizabeth and Westfield before moving to Holland three years ago.
Mrs. Fogerty had been a secretary with the Singer Manufacturing Company in Elizabeth for 10 years before retiring many years ago.
Surviving are a son, Jeffrey Gilbert; a daughter, Jill Murphy; a sister, Evelyn Comby and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, October 18, at the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.

John S. De Noia, 88, of Scotch Plains, died on Tuesday, October 12, at the McCarrick Center in Somerset.
Born in Italy, he came to the United States in 1917 and lived in New York before moving to Scotch Plains in 1954.
Mr. De Noia was an Eastern Regional Sales Manager for Johnson and Johnson in New Brunswick for 30 years, prior to retiring in 1972.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Father Nelligan Council No. 5730 of Scotch Plains.
Mr. De Noia was a communicant of St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains and was the church’s head usher.
He was predeceased by his wife, Veronica Curti De Noia, in 1993,
and his brother, James De Noia, in 1986.
Surviving are two sons, John De Noia and Michael De Noia; a daughter, Ronnie De Noia; a brother, Frank De Noia; nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass was held at St. Bartholomew Church on Thursday, October 14. Interment was at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery in Colonia.
