ball loose, then Jenkins fell on the ball at the Raider 25. Unfortunately for the Devils, the big Raider defense of birthday boys Dan Loomis and Bob Dinsmore along with Ron Jenerette and Dave Herrmann held pat and the Raiders took over on the 21.

“I was happy that we fought our way back to get close,” said Tranchina. “We had our opportunity to get the game to within three, but we did not capitalize.”

The Raiders kept to the ground, using Jones, Cousar and the big Raider line to move the ball to the three where

Jones swept right and in for the touchdown. Gillie’s kick made the score 3316.

With the leadership of MacDonald, the Blue Devils marched 65 yards in less than two minutes to narrow the score to 3323. From the Devil 49, MacDonald, like a magician, slid the ball into halfback Diano R e a v i s ’ hand. From there, Reavis glided down the left sideline for the touchdown.

“That was his first touchdown and I was happy for Diano,” exp r e s s e d Tranchina. “That play is either a touchdown or a five-yard loss. Ryan showed poise and did a good job.”

“They pulled some tricks on us and they worked,” said Ciccotelli. “We had

trouble with our special teams. We have some young kids in there. We will correct it.”

L i g h t ning struck again with 8:13 rem a i n i n g w h e n J o n e s , found an opening, s h o o k some tackles and bolted 59 yards for his fourth t o u c h d o w n . Jones fifth touchdown came on a eight-run slant, three plays after W es Wa r c h o l blocked a punt and S e rg i o P e r e i r a leaped on the ball.

J o n e s f i n i s h e d with an astounding 262 yards rushing in the second half. “They (Westfield) came out all fired up and we were a little flat. So, I knew that I had to help pick the team up,” said Jones. “Our line opened up a lot of holes and I had a lot of cutbacks.”

Jones pointed out, “Our line really picked it up in the second half. They did a great job today.”

“Every time they came back, we came back,” expressed Ciccotelli. “And that is a tribute to our team.”

The Blue Devils had 139 yards rushing with Jenkins carrying eight times for 41 yards and Reavis rushing five times for 59 yards. Giacone completed two of 11 passes for 17 yards and MacDonald completed two of six for 15 yards. The Raiders rushed for 353 yards on 50 carries with Cousar carrying six times for 16 yards and Freshwater rushing three times for 25 yards. Schiller completed five passes in nine attempts for 79 yards. The Raiders boosted their record to 3-0 while the Blue Devils slipped to 1-2.
