Ruth Bliwise, Active in Westfield Groups; Charter Member of Holocaust Museum

Ruth Bliwise of Mountainside died on Friday, November 5, in the Manor Health Care Facility in Mountainside.

Born in Newark, she had lived in Elizabeth before moving to Mountainside 45 years ago.

Mrs. Bliwise had worked as a teacher with the Newark Board of Education until 1955.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from New Jersey State Teachers College in Newark.

She was a member of the Hadassah and B’nai B’rith, both of Westfield, and a charter member of the Holocaust Museum of Washington, D.C.

Barbara Gordon

Barbara Gordon of Mountainside died on Thursday, November 4, in Overlook Hospital in Summit.

Born in Elizabeth, she had lived in Connecticut and New York City before moving to Mountainside 25 years ago.

Mrs. Gordon was a member of Hadassah and the B’nai B’rith Women, both of Westfield.

She studied voice at the Juilliard School of Music and the Manhattan School of Music for many years.

Surviving is her mother, Jeanne Scher.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, November 7, in the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.

Mary Cauterucci, 74

Mary Josephine Anne Cauterucci, 74, of Toms River died on Friday, November 5, at home.

Born in North Arlington, she had lived in Westfield for 37 years before moving to Toms River.

Mrs. Cauterucci was a graduate of Trinity College in Washington, D.C.

Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Vincent J. Cauterucci; seven sons, James Cauterucci, Frank Cauterucci, Peter Cauterucci, Richard Cauterucci, Vincent Cauterucci, Michael Cauterucci and John Cauterucci; four daughters, Annamarie McCarthy, Judith Prior, Delores Talvy and Mary Godfrey; a brother, Aldo Del Turco; a sister, Irene Morrison and 14 grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass was offered on Monday, November 8, in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Toms River.

Arrangements were handled by the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home in Toms River.

James Williamson, Sr., 76, Army Veteran; Was Retired From Harris Structural Steel

James Williamson, Sr., 76, of Union died on Thursday, November 4, at Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark.

Born in Johnsonville, S.C., he had lived in Plainfield and Fanwood before moving to Union 18 years ago.

Mr. Williamson had worked for the Harris Structural Steel Corporation in South Plainfield before retiring.

He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during World War II.

He was a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints in Westfield.

Surviving are two sons, Rochelle Williamson of Plainfield and James Williamson, Jr. of Piscataway; a daughter, Annie Williams of Plainfield; two stepdaughters, Pamela Butterfield and Doris Stephens; nine sisters, Juanita Graham of New York City, Yvonne McWhite and Adele Key, both of Johnsonville, S.C.; Johnnie M. Perkins of the Bronx,

William E. Dority, 71

William E. Dority, 71, of Greensboro, N.C. died on Friday, November 5, in the Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Center in Durham, N.C.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, he had lived in Westfield for 30 years before moving to Greensboro in 1998.

Mr. Dority had been the Vice President of Decor Inc. in Englewood, where he worked for many years before retiring.

He was a graduate of Toledo University in Toledo, Ohio.

Mr. Dority served in the United States Air Force in the early 1950s and was a member of the Atlas Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons in New Jersey.

Surviving are a daughter, Melinda Spencer Housh; a son, William Bradley; a sister, Evelyn D. Stoll, and two grandchildren.

Arrangements were handled by the Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home in Greensboro.

Mitchell Krauss, 68, Business Owner; Won Distinguished Service Award

Mitchell Krauss, 68, of Westfield died on Thursday, November 4, in Overlook Hospital in Summit.

Born in Morristown, he had lived in Florham Park before moving to Westfield 37 years ago.

Mr. Krauss was co-owner of J.M. Kesslinger & Associates of Union for 44 years.

He was a 38-year member of the New Jersey Chapter of the Business Marketing Association and received the organization’s Distinguished Service Award in 1981.

He served on the Board of Trustees

Mary J. Jenkins, 79

Mary Jane Jenkins, 79, of North Beach died on Sunday, November 7, at home.

Born in Midland, Pa., she had lived in Scotch Plains and Valhalla, N.Y. before moving to North Beach 15 years ago.

Mrs. Jenkins served with the United States NAVY Waves during World War II and was a member of the Navy League.

She was a secular Franciscan and a Eucharistic minister at St. Francis of Assisi Church.

Surviving are her husband, Sheldon Jenkins; a son, Kenneth C. Jenkins, and three grandchildren.

A Mass was offered yesterday, Wednesday, November 10, following the funeral from the Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home of Manahawkin.

of the New Jersey Ad Club of Kearny, the League of Advertising Agencies in New York City and was on the Board of Directors of the New Jersey Group of Small Chemical Businesses in Summit.

Mr. Krauss also served on the Board of Trustees of the Inventors Hall of Fame at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark.

He was a 1952 graduate of Drew University and did his post-graduate work in history at Columbia University and American University in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Krauss studied industrial public relations at the Bernard Baruch School of Business in New York City.

He served in the United States Army during peace time.

Surviving are his wife, Joy Krauss; two daughters, Susan Krauss and Caroline Bogart; a son, Bill Krauss; a brother, Harold Krauss, and two sisters, Hannah Walitsky and Sylvia Friedman.

Services were held on Sunday, November 7, at Temple Emanu-El in Westfield.

Arrangements were handled by the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.

Surviving are her husband, Daniel Bliwise; a son, Dr. Donald Bliwise; a brother, Dr. William Offenkrantz, and a grandchild.

Services were held on Monday, November 8, in Temple Emanu-El in Westfield. Arrangements were handled by the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.

Funeral services were held yesterday, Wednesday, November 10, at the Church of Latter Day Saints in Plainfield.

Arrangements were handled by the Judkins Colonial Home in Plainfield.

Mildred Magnolia, 91, of Linden died on Saturday, October 30, at the John E. Runnells Specialized Hospital in Berkeley Heights.

Born in Elizabeth, she lived in Linden for over 50 years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Frank J. Magnolia, Sr., in 1972.

Surviving are two sons, Frank J. Magnolia, Jr. of Mountainside and Charles Magnolia of Port Saint Lucie, Fla.; six grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.

Graveside funeral services were held Thursday, November 4, at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.

Arrangements were handled by the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield.

James F. Spencer, 68, Was Rotarian, Mason and Member of Pilots’ Group Dorothy Andrews, 70

Dorothy L. Andrews, 70, of Westfield died on Friday, August 6, at Genesis ElderCare Center in Westfield.

She was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas Andrews, in 1988.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 20, at St. Joseph’s Shrine, 1050 Long Hill Road in Stirling.

Arrangements are being handled by the Valley Memorial Funeral Home in Gillette.

Jonathan Katz, 35, of Mountainside died on Sunday, November 7.

Born in Newark, he had lived in Hillside before moving to Mountainside 25 years ago.

Mr. Katz worked for Forgione Trucking in Plainfield.

Surviving are his parents, Edward and Muriel Katz; a daughter, Amanda Wachsberg, and a sister, Linda Verduo.

Services were held on Tuesday, November 9, in B’nai Abraham Memorial Park in Union.

Arrangements were handled by the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.

James Fordyce Spencer, 68, of St. James Plantation, Southport, N.C. died on Friday, November 5, at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Hospital.

Born on February 7, 1931, in Salamanca, N.Y., the son of the late James O. Spencer and Glendine Gates Spencer, he was a former resident of Westfield.

He was formerly a member of the Echo Lake Country Club of Westfield, the Rotary Club and the American Chamber of Commerce, both in the Philippines; the Masonic Lodge in New York and the Private Pilots Association and was a member of the North Carolina Senior Golf Association.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Carmencita Spencer; two daughters, Victoria S. Evans of Scotch Plains and Dawn M. Spencer of Westfield; two sisters, Suzanne Marquardt of Charlotte, N.C. and Christy Schwartzott of Glastonbury, Conn., and two grand

children. A Memorial service was held on Monday, November 8, in the St. James Chapel in St. James Plantation.

Red Cross Chapter Awards Prizes in Annual Drawing GRAND PRIZE WINNER…Dennis Kinsella, right, Executive Director of the

Westfield/Mountainside Chapter of the American Red Cross, congratulates Hillary Kaplan of Westfield on being the winner of the grand prize 1986 Ferrari Replica in this year’s raffle. Mrs. Kaplan’s husband, Brian, is pictured at left. Bonnie McManus, also of Westfield, was the second prize winner and received a Rolex watch from Martin Jewelers of Cranford.

WESTFIELD – The Westfield/ Mountainside Chapter of the American Red Cross has announced that Hillary Kaplan of Westfield is the winner of the grand prize in this year’s raffle. The second prize went to Bonnie McManus, also of Westfield.

Mrs. Kaplan won a 1986 Ferrari Replica, while Mrs. McManus received a Tudor Ladies Stainless Steel

watch. The drawing was held on September 26 at the chapter house located at 321 Elm Street in Westfield.

The Chapter celebrated the raffle event with a picnic at the chapter house prior to the drawing. Jim Brown, owner of The Windmill of Westfield on East Broad Street, donated the hamburgers, hot dogs, rolls and condiments for the picnic.

Ellen Ramos, the owner of Martin Jewelers in Cranford, donated the Rolex watch. The winner of last year’s car raffle picked the winning ticket for this year’s drawing.

The Westfield /Mountainside Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Fundraising Committee thanked all who helped the chapter sell tickets and serve food, as well as those who donated prizes and otherwise supported the annual event.

‘Secondary Career’ Scholarships Available

WESTFIELD —Applications are available for a Secondary Career Development Scholarship offered by the BCW Business and Professional Women, Inc.

Women who are residents of New Jersey and currently attending school or planning to return for further training with the intention of re-entering the job market may apply for this award. The criteria for selection is sincerity of purpose and financial need.

The amount of the scholarship will be determined by the BCW Business and Professional Women, Inc.

The deadline for submission of applications is Tuesday, February 1. The recipient will be presented with the award at the monthly meeting of the BCW BPW, Inc. on Tuesday, May 16.

Eric Encarnacion Named AP Scholar

WESTFIELD – Eric Encarnacion, a senior at The Pingry School in Bernards Township, has been named an Advance Placement (AP) Scholar by the College Board, in recognition of his exceptional achievements on the college level Advance Placement Examinations.

The son of Dr. Cirilo Encarnacion and Dr. Merle C. Cruz of Westfield, Eric is among 21 current Pingry seniors to earn the honor of AP Scholar or higher.

Students qualify for the AP Scholar Award by earning an average grade of 3 or higher (on a scale of 1 to 5) on three or more AP Examinations.
