James Herbert Welcomed By Donaghy Family

Mr. and Mrs. James P. Donaghy of Toms River have announced the birth of their son, James Herbert Donaghy, on Thursday, April 22, at Community Medical Center in Toms River.

James weighed 7 pounds and 12 ounces and measured 21 inches in length at birth.

He joins his sister, Juliet Carolyn, age 8.

James’s maternal grandparents are the Reverend Dr. and Mrs. Herbert Arrunategui of Davenport, Florida, formerly of Westfield.

His paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. James Donaghy of Audubon, Pennsylvania.

Brendan Hickey Named To Orange Key Society

At Hobart And Smith

WESTFIELD — Brendan Hickey of Westfield, a freshman at Hobart And Smith College in Geneva, New York, was recently inducted into the Orange Key Society during the annual Charter Day Ceremony held at the college.

The Orange Key Society, founded in 1926, honors outstanding Hobart students for academic excellence as they enter their sophomore year.

Brendan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Hickey of Westfield, played pulling guard for the Westfield High School football team (WHS). He is 1998 WHS graduate.

Local Students Earn Deans’ List Status

SCOTCH PLAINS — Jennifer Del Roio and Faiz Sadeq, both of Scotch Plains, have been named to the Deans’ List for the fall 1998 semester at the University of the sciences in Philadelphia.

Jennifer, a third-year student, and Faiz, a second-year student, are earning credits for Doctor of Pharmacy degrees.

Jodi Goldberg Named To Honor Society

WESTFIELD — Jodi Goldberg of Westfield, a junior government major and history minor at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, has been inducted into the Pi Gamma Mu National Social Science Honor Society.

The Society recognizes juniors and seniors who have at least seven courses in the social studies with greater than a 3.0 grade average, and an overall grade point average of 3.30.

She is a 1996 Westfield High School graduate.

Lisa M. Steirman Named To Academic Honor Society

WESTFIELD — Lisa B. Steirman of Westfield, a senior at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, has been elected to the Phi Beta Kappa, the national honor academic honor society.

A government and law major, she is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Barry M. Steirman.

Westfielders Graduate From South Carolina U.

WESTFIELD — Tara Marie Miller and Alexandra Leigh Tourtellotte, both of Westfield, received their degrees during commencement exercises at the University of South Carolina’s Columbia campus.

Tara received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from the College of Liberal Arts, while Alexander received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Retailing from the School of Applied Professional Sciences.

Linda Salerno Named To Phi Betta Kappa

FANWOOD Linda Marie Salerno of Fanwood, a senior at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, was recently elected into membership in the Gamma of Virginia Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.

Phi Beta Kappa annually elects a limited number of students of outstanding character and superior academic records.

Linda, a graduate of Pingry School, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Neil Salerno of Fanwood.

Celebrate 40 Years

Mr. and Mrs. James Michael Miele of Scotch Plains recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary at a party given by their daughters and sons-in-law, Maryanne and Michael Novello of Morristown and Lisa and Steven Rastelli of Scotch Plains.

The celebration, held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Scotch Plains, was attended by 50 friends and relatives.

Mr. Miele and the former Miss Rose Ann Damelio were married on

May 30, 1959, in St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church in Elizabeth.

Mr. Miele retired in December of 1991 as a comptroller for Mac Gregor Navire in Cranford, where he worked for 15 years.

He previously held an accounting position at General Instrument in Clifton for 10 years and at American Type Founders in Elizabeth for 24 years.

The Mieles have three grandchildren, Viviana and Thomas Novello and Angela Rastelli.

Mr. and Mrs. Leppert Mark Golden Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. John Leppert of Scotch Plains recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a party hosted by their children, Ms. Bonnie Leppert of New Brunswick and Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Leppert of Niscayuna, New York.

The couple was joined by friends and relatives at the celebration, which took place at the ItalianAmerican Club in Scotch Plains, the same place where their wedding reception was held.

Mr. and Mrs. Leppert were married on April 9, 1949, in Kirkpatrick Chapel at Rutgers University. During the anniversary party, guests danced to music performed by Connie Tarentino’s band, which also entertained at their reception 50 years ago.

In addition to their children, the couple are grandparents to Daniel Leppert, 16, and Jeffrey Leppert, 12.

Mrs. Leppert, the former Miss Marie Di Francesco, formerly taught school in Plainfield, Scotch Plains and North Plainfield.

Mr. Leppert retired as President of Colloid Chemical, Inc. of Cedar Knolls.

Miss Melissa Hobson To Wed Galen Warren

Mr. and Mrs. Gene Hobson of Westfield have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Melissa Hobson of Charlottesville, Virginia, to Galen Warren, also of Charlottesville. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Kenneth Warren of Jackson, Tennessee.

A 1992 graduate of Westfield High School, the future bride received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and French from the University of Virginia at Charlottesville

in 1996. She is employed by SNL Securities in Charlottesville as a merger analyst.

Her fiancé, a 1989 graduate of The Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics and Cognitive Science from the University of Virginia in 1994. He is employed by SNL Securities as a software engineer.

A wedding is planned for October.
