Sydney Marie Born to Harleys

Nancy and Peter Harley of Westfield have announced the birth of their daughter, Sydney Marie Harley, on Wednesday, March 3, at 10:55 a.m. at Overlook Hospital in Summit.

Sydney weighed 8 pounds and 13 ounces and measured 20¾ inches in length at birth.

She joins her brother, P.J., age 9. Sydney’s maternal grandparents are Ed and Ethel Musto of Mountainside.

Her paternal grandparents are Alan and Marion Harley of Westfield.

Miss Linda Coulter To Wed Marc LaCarrubba

Mr. and Mrs. Peter McEnerney of Westfield have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Melissa Beth McEnerney, to Andrew Vallila of New Providence. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Vallila of Lyndhurst.

The future bride graduated from Westfield High School and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing from Bryant College in Smithfield, Rhode Island. She is employed as a senior sales account executive at the New Providence office of Martindale-Hubbell.

Her fiancé, a graduate of Don Bosco Preparatory High School in Ramsey, was awarded his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut.

He also received a master’s degree from Seton Hall University in South Orange. He is employed by Becton

Dickinson in Franklin Lakes as a senior programmer analyst.

An afternoon wedding is planned for June at the Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church in Chatham Township.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Coulter of Westfield have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Linda Coulter, to Marc LaCarrubba. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis LaCarrubba, also of Westfield.

The bride-to-be graduated from Westfield High School and from the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Edu

cation. She is employed as a fifthgrade teacher by the Millburn Township Board of Education.

Her fiancé, also a graduate of Westfield High School, was awarded his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics and Statistics from Rutgers University in New Brunswick. He is employed by Ernst & Young LLP in Lyndhurst.

The couple plan to be married in July.

Gwendolyn Schundler Achieves Honor Roll At Mount St. Dominic

WESTFIELD – Gwendolyn Schundler of Westfield has been named to the Honor Roll with first honors for the second quarter of the marking period at Mount Saint Dominic Academy in Caldwell.

Gwendolyn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schundler. She is a sophomore at the Academy.

Lisa Saunders Earns Dean’s List Honors

At Elon College

WESTFIELD – Lisa Diane Saunders, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Saunders of Westfield, has been named to the Dean’s List for the Fall 1998 semester at Elon College in North Carolina.

To qualify, students must earn no grade lower than a “B,” and have a grade point average of at least 3.40 for a minimum of 12 semester hours.

Benjamin Keiser Earns Dean’s List Recognition

At Univ. of Maryland

WESTFIELD – Benjamin Keiser has achieved Dean’s List honors for the Fall 1998 semester at the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences of the University of Maryland in College Park.

A 1995 graduate of Westfield High School, Benjamin was among those students who achieved a minimum 3.5 grade point average for the semester. He is the son of Ruthellen Keiser of Westfield.

Paul Jason Stern Earns Dean’s List Recognition

At Univ. of Delaware

WESTFIELD — Paul Jason Stern, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Stern of Rockville, Maryland, formerly of Westfield, has been named to the 1998 Fall semester Dean’s List at the University of Delaware at Newark.

The Dean’s List is comprised of students who have maintained a scholastic average of 3.2 or better. Paul maintained a 3.3 grade point average.

Paul is a junior in the School of Business at the University of Delaware. He is also President of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.

After graduation in the year 2000, he plans to attend graduate school.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Posts Dean’s Students

WESTFIELD – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute of New York has announced the names of students who have achieved Dean’s List honors for the fall semester.

Students must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 and hold no grade below a C.

Andrea J. Maggi of Scotch Plains, a freshman majoring in engineering; and Jonathan W. Jones of Westfield, a junior majoring in management, achieved Dean’s List honors.

Bryan Graye Joins Pre-Medical Program At Franklin & Marshall

WESTFIELD – Bryan Graye of Westfield, a sophomore at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, is participating in the Lancaster General Hospital Pre-Medical Preceptorship program.

Sponsored by Franklin & Marshall’s Office of Pre-Healing Arts and Lancaster General Hospital, the eightweek program exposes students to a variety of hospital departments.

Participation in the program requires a commitment of 20 hours, including a one-hour orientation at the hospital, 16 hours of rounds and observation, and three one-hour evening lectures. Students observe patient contact and interact with hospital staff during rounds.

The program is open to all qualified Franklin & Marshall students and is designed to increase self-awareness of opportunities and issues in medicine.

The son of Dr. Philip and JoAnn Graye of Westfield, Bryan graduated from Westfield High School in 1997.

Local Students Achieve Colby College Dean’s List

WESTFIELD – Colby College has announced the names of local students who have achieved Dean’s List honors for the fall semester of 1998.

Bryan M. Gates, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Geoffrey Gates of Westfield, was named to the Dean’s List. He is a freshman who graduated from Westfield High School.

Katherine A. Egan was also named to the list. A freshman student, she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Egan of Westfield. She graduated from Westfield High School.

Kristen A. Lee, a senior student at Colby, also achieved Dean’s List honors. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee of Scotch Plains. She is an English major with a concentration in creative writing and American studies. She graduated from Westfield High School.

Jennifer M. Kassakian, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Kassakian of Westfield, was named to the Dean’s List. She is a junior with a major in biology and a concentration in environmental science. She graduated from Westfield High School.

Christopher D. Gates, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Geoffrey Gates and a senior student, earned Dean’s List honors. He is a senior American studies major. He graduated from St. Paul’s School.

Local Students Earn Dean’s List Status At Univ. of Illinois

SCOTCH PLAINS – Joseph Loomis and Barbara Marcketta, both of Scotch Plains, have achieved Dean’s List status for the Fall 1998 semester at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Eligibility is limited to the top 20 percent of a student’s college class or curriculum. The minimum number of hours of course work required is determined by each college or unit.

Joseph is a Commerce and Business Administration major. Barbara is a Liberal Arts and Sciences major.

Fairleigh Dickinson Names Honored Pupils

Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Florham-Madison campus has released the names of local students who qualified for the Fall 1998 Semester Dean’s and Honors List.

To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must have a 3.2 or better grade point average out of a possible 4.0. Students must achieve a 3.5 or better for the Honors List.

Colleen Spotts of Scotch Plains, and Meghan Cusimano, Matthew Hanas, and Cathleen Surdouski, all of Westfield achieved Honors List recognition.

Josephine Scasso of Mountainside, Xiao-Xia Liao of Scotch Plains, and Jessica Potter of Westfield earned Dean’s List honors.

Elizabeth R. Shannon Named to Dean’s List

WESTFIELD – Elizabeth R. Shannon, a sophomore at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, has been named to the Dean’s List for the first semester of the 1998-1999 academic year at the school.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Shannon of Westfield, and is majoring in classics.

Area Students Earn Dean’s List Honors

SCOTCH PLAINS — Regina Giordano and Sharon Reagan of Scotch Plains were named to the Dean’s List at York College of Pennsylvania for the 1998 Fall Semester.

Students receiving this honor must carry at least 12 academic credit hours and attain a semester grade point average of 3.5 or better.

Kevin Dowling Ends Marine Basic Training

WESTFIELD – Kevin M. Dowling, the son of Maryann M. Dowling of Westfield, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island, South Carolina.

Recruits began their training at 5 a.m. by running three miles and performing calisthenics. The training also included classroom and field assignments which included learning first aid, uniform regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat and assorted weapons training.

The recruits also performed close order drill and operated as a small infantry unit during field training.

Mr. Dowling joined 41,000 men and women who will enter the Marine Corps this year nationwide.

He is a 1997 graduate of Westfield High School.
