WESTFIELD — Gaile K. Boothe, retiring this month as a teacher at Westfield High School and an active volunteer in Westfield, has been elected to the Board of Trustees of the Westfield Adult School Association.

A resident of Westfield for the past 40 years, Mrs. Boothe has taught in the public schools since 1971 at every grade level. She started her career as an elementary classroom teacher at Wilson School and then moved to Franklin School before going to Roosevelt Intermediate School in 1980. She came to the high school to teach mathematics in 1987.

Outside the classroom, she served as a WEA (Westfield Education Association) officer on the intermediate planning and the instructional grouping professional committees; as cheerleader coach; as adviser to the Student Council, Young Republican Club, Future Teachers Club, Junior Friends of the Symphony and as United Fund representative at the high school.

A graduate of Bryn Mawr College, she also holds a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She has served as Scholarship Chairwoman for the Bryn Mawr Club of Northern New Jersey.

In the community, Mrs. Boothe has served as President of the College Woman’s Club for two terms and is an active volunteer with the Westfield Symphony Friends, Westfield Historical Society and Friends of the Library.

She is married to Bud Boothe, former mayor of Westfield. They are the parents of three grown children, Garland Boothe, 3rd, Douglas Boothe and Nancy Boothe Dayton, and have six grandchildren.

The new Adult School Board member said that she looks forward to working with Westfield’s 60-yearold independent, non-profit adult education organization “to continue my lifelong interest in education, particularly the continuing education of adult women.”

Mrs. Boothe introduced to the College Woman’s Club the concept of awarding scholarships to adult women continuing their education, as well as to Westfield High School graduates.

“We are delighted that Gaile has agreed to join our Board of Trustees to help us carry out our mission:

providing educational opportunities for people in Westfield and the surrounding areas,” said Board President Lawrence Pargot. “As a former educator and First Lady of Westfield, she is well known as a competent, dedicated person who gets things done in a most efficient and gracious manner.”
