face sliding skid to grab a grounder. He rolled to position and zinged the ball to first to end the inning.
Deo pulled off a slippery play himself in the bottom of the fourth when he banana-looped to cover first and grabbed the relay in time to beat out the base runner by one step. Defensive magnificence by St. Anne continued in the fifth. After Howard Jones of St. Joseph singled, Deo ini
tiated a pitcher-to-second-to-first double play.
St. Anne upped its lead to 3-0 in the sixth. Fran Lienhard yanked a single to right and later advanced to second on a throwing error. DeChristofaro bashed an RBI single to right-center but as he attempted to stretch it to a double, right fielder Charlie Kreyer whipped the ball to Marchelitis at second in time for the putout.
Joe McEvoy of St. Anne showed his defensive prowess at second in the sixth inning when he hung with a steaming grounder and whizzed it to first for the out. Worth plopped a single into left but St. Joseph failed to score once again.
Concerned about nursing a threerun lead, St. Anne found the remedy in the top of the seventh. Grossmann mangled a single to center, Margolis punched a single to left and a throwing error on the next play allowed Grossmann to score. Worth, at second, pulled off a spectacular diving play to get the force out, but another run scored. Wally Bradshaw wobbled a 15-foot single and Deo followed with an RBI single. Rich Chaplin said some kind words then scribbled an RBI single past short. John Wilkinson concluded the scoring by slashing an RBI single to center.
Only Marchelitis could muster a single in the seventh and St. Joseph gracefully conceded defeat.

reached base safely on an error, then Barrett thumped an RBI triple to deep center. Lemorges added his second RBI sacrifice fly of the evening to up the Units’ units to 11.
Chrone’s poured it on slightly with two runs in the sixth. Hurtt hissed a single to left, advanced to third on a throwing error, then scored when Kole reached base safely on an infield error. Heintz punched a single up-the-middle. With two outs, Burns steamed an RBI single to center but a sharp catcher-to-third toss nailed Heintz as he slid into third.
In the top of the seventh, Dan Monaco hammered a two-run homer into the trees in left to jump the score to 13-4. In the Chrone’s half of the inning, Cerria singled to left, moved to second on a single by LePore, then scored on a throwing error. Despite additional singles from Sean Kelly and Bradley, the base runners were left high and dry with the bases loaded, when the Units chased down two outfield fly balls to slam the door on Chrone’s Tavern.
