Michael Cefolo, 84, Was Co-Founder Of NJ Provisions Company of Union

Michael Cefolo, 84, of Mountainside and West Palm Beach, Florida, died Friday, January 8, in the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in West Palm Beach.

Born in Union, he had lived in Mountainside for 40 years and had maintained a residence in West Palm Beach.

Mr. Cefolo was the founder and owner, along with his son, Michael Cefolo, and brother, Anthony Cefolo, of the New Jersey Provisions Company of Union. He had worked for 40 years before retiring 22 years ago.

Elsie M. Lueddeke, 81

Elsie M. Lueddeke, 81, of Scotch Plains died Tuesday, January 12, at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.

Born and raised in Westfield, she had moved to Scotch Plains 57 years ago.

Surviving are her husband, Louis Lueddeke; a son, Ken Lueddeke of Quinton, and two grandchildren.

A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, January 16, at the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street, Westfield. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.

M. Steigerwald, 73, Was Navy Seaman; Owner of Consulting Firm in Fanwood

Marvin J. “Sandy” Steigerwald, 73, of Fanwood died Wednesday, January 13, at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.

Born in Pittsburgh, he had lived in Fanwood for 34 years.

He had served in the United States Navy as a seaman first class during World War II.

Mr. Steigerwald was a supervisor at the Military Traffic Management Command Office in Pittsburgh from 1953 to 1965 and a supervisor at the Military Ocean Terminal in Bayonne from 1965 until his retirement in 1982. After retiring, he established the M.J.S. Transportation Consulting Business in Fanwood.

Ruth Czarny, 79, Overlook Volunteer; Active in Various Westfield Art Groups

Ruth Elizabeth Czarny, 79, of Westfield died on Thursday, January 14, at Rahway Hospital in Rahway.

Born in Neptune, she had lived most of her life in Westfield.

Mrs. Czarny was a member of the Woman’s Club of Westfield where she served as Co-Chairwoman of their arts department and Scholarship Committee.

Harriett Blackman, 86

Harriett P. Blackman, 86, of Bridgewater died on Friday, January 15, at the Somerset Medical Center in Somerville.

Born in Elizabeth, she had lived in Scotch Plains and Westfield for 22 years before moving to the Eastern Star Home in Bridgewater in September 1998.

Mrs. Blackman was a member of the Atlas Chapter No. 99 Order of the Eastern Star in Westfield.

She was predeceased by her husband, Fred J. Blackman, approximately 25 years ago.

Surviving are two sons, Fred A. Blackman of Ringoes and Robert L. Blackman of Westfield; three brothers, Harry Palmer of Mt. Bethel, Lawrence Palmer of Weare, New Hampshire, and Wilbur Palmer of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Lois Tucker of Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania and Alice Daniels of Forked River; five grandchildren, and eight greatgrandchildren.

A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, January 19, at the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield.

Interment was held at the Lake Nelson Cemetery in Piscataway.

W. Frankenberger, Was Navy SeaBee; Western Electric Supervisor for 40 Years

Walter J. Frankenberger of Cranford died on Sunday, January 17, at Rahway Hospital.

Born in Elizabeth, he had lived in Cranford for the last 80 years.

He had served as a United States Navy SeaBee in the Pacific during World War II.

Mr. Frankenberger was a supervisor for Western Electric in Kearney for over 40 years, before retiring in 1978.

He was a communicant of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Cranford where he was a member of the Holy Name Society.

Mary J. Boyton, 71, Was Cashier At Local Shop-Rite for 23 Years

Mary J. Cosimano Boyton, 71, of Plainfield died on Wednesday, January 13, at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center.

Born in Brooklyn, she had lived in Scotch Plains and New Port Richey, Florida before moving to Plainfield two years ago.

Mrs. Boyton was a cashier at ShopRite in Watchung for 23 years, before retiring in 1975.

She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post No. 79 in New Port Richey and served as the chairwoman of the Patriotism Committee for 10 years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles T. Boyton, in 1997.

Surviving are a son, Thomas E. Boyton of Scotch Plains; two brothers, Joseph Cosimano of Lakewood and Frank Cosimano of Miami; a sister, Theresa Prisco of Nanuet, New York, and two grandchildren. She was a volunteer at Overlook

Hospital in Summit, and was also a member of the Twiggs, an affiliate of the hospital. She was known for her artwork in various art groups in Westfield.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Czarny, in 1997.

Surviving are a son, Robert Czarny of Chatham; two daughters, Donna Mannino of Potomac, Maryland and Karen Gruman of Westfield; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 19, in the Chapel of The Presbyterian Church in Westfield.

Funeral arrangements were handled by the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield. Interment was at the Revolutionary Cemetery in Westfield.

Surviving are his wife, Carmela Cefolo; a daughter, Joyce Nicastro; two brothers, Anthony Cefolo and Jacob Cefolo; four sisters, Mildred Salsano, Grace Rubino, Marge Salomine and Rose DeCecco; 12 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass was offered on Friday, January 15, at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Mountainside.

Arrangements were handled by the Galante Funeral Home in Union.

He was a 50-year member of Corinthian Lodge No. 573, Free and Accepted Masons in Pittsburgh.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, LaVerne Lobie Steigerwald; three sons, John M. Steigerwald and James G. Steigerwald, both of New York City, and David V. Steigerwald of Fanwood, and a sister, Grace S. Miller of Richmond, Virginia.

Arrangements were handled by the Memorial Funeral Home in Fanwood. Services were private.

Mildred Mirto, 78, Fanwood Resident For 45 Years; Active Church Member

Mildred P. Mirto, 78, of Fanwood died Monday, January 18, at home.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, she had lived in Cohoes, New York, before moving to Fanwood 45 years ago.

Mrs. Mirto was a member of St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph L. Mirto, in 1978.

Frank Cleminshaw, 87, Trade Diplomat; General Instrument Executive for 25 Years

Frank Foster Cleminshaw, 87, of Scotch Plains died on Friday, January 15, at Clark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Brooklyn, he had lived in Woodhaven, New York, before moving to Scotch Plains 24 years ago.

Mr. Cleminshaw graduated from St. Thomas College in New York City in 1930. He also attended Columbia University from 1931 to 1936. He graduated from Harvard University’s advanced management program in 1957.

He was a Vice President and Treasurer for 25 years at General Instrument Corporation in Clifton and in

Joseph Pisinski, 84, Army Veteran; Building Inspector in Local Counties

Joseph Walter Pisinski, 84, of Scotch Plains, died on Sunday, January 17, at Overlook Hospital in Summit.

Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, he lived in Scotch Plains for 36 years.

He was a general contractor building inspector in Union and Essex Counties.

Mr. Pisinski served in the United States Army as a sergeant during World War II. He was in charge of shipping supplies from New Zealand to the Solomon Islands. He was part of the United States Joint Purchasing Board in the South Pacific.

He stayed on in New Zealand for 14 years and was the co-founder of the first American Legion Post in Wellington, New Zealand.

Mr. Pisinski was the first commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Scotch Plains/Fanwood Memorial Post No. 10122 and a life member of the post. He was also a member of the Scotch Plains Senior Citizens.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Laurel F. Pisinski; two sisters, Helen Morawski of Worcester, Massachu

Herman J. King, 84

Herman Jerome King, 84, of Westfield died on Saturday, January 16, at home.

Born in Philadelphia, he moved to Westfield with his family 20 years ago.

Mr. King was a post office accountant in Philadelphia.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy King; two daughters, Barbara Mackey of Los Angeles and Rita Washington of Westfield, and four grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be held today, Thursday, January 22, at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church in Plainfield. Visitation will be private.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Plinton Curry Funeral Home in Westfield.

Frank M. Colvin, 78, Was Electrician; Owned Panel-Oven Engineering

Frank M. Colvin, 78, of South Plainfield died Monday, January 18, at home.

Born in Plainfield, Mr. Colvin had lived in Scotch Plains before moving to South Plainfield in 1943.

Mr. Colvin owned and operated Panel-Oven Engineering in South Plainfield since 1955. Previously, he worked as an electrician at WatsonStillman Co. of Roselle. He was employed by Eastern Aircraft of Linden during World War II.

He was a Past-President of the Plainfield Chamber of Commerce League, South Plainfield Industrial Division, and the United States Navy League, New Brunswick Chapter.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in South Plainfield and St. Bonaventure Ro

man Catholic Church in Lavallette. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Helen Pearson Colvin; a daughter, Carol Squindo of South Plainfield; a son, Frank Colvin, Jr. of South Plainfield; three sisters, Ruth Stefanik of Port Charlotte, Florida, Lorraine Gallian of Kingwood, Texas, and Edith Snider of Milford.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow, Friday, January 22, at 9:15 a.m. at McCriskin Home for Funerals in South Plainfield followed by a 10 a.m. Mass at Sacred Heart Church in South Plainfield.

Visitation will be held today, Thursday, January 21, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Surviving is his wife, Marguerite Rogge Cleminshaw.

Services will be held on Tuesday, January 26, at 4:30 p.m. at the Fanwood Presbyterian Church. There will be no visitation.

She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross in Westfield and a member of the Women’s Club of the German Evangelical Church in North Plainfield.

Surviving are her husband, Joseph F. Interdonato; a son, Joseph Interdonato of Branchburg; a daughter, Patricia Ducas of Vernon, and a grandchild.

Services will be held tomorrow, Friday, January 22, at 10 a.m. in The Presbyterian Church in Westfield.

Funeral arrangements were handled by the Growney Funeral Home in Hillside.

Retired Superior Court of New Jersey Judge Cuddie E. Davidson, Jr., 77, whose law career also included having served as Town Attorney and Union County Assistant Prosecutor, died on Tuesday, January 19, at his Bridgewater home.

Born in Chicago in 1921, Judge Davidson was raised in Miami, Oklahoma, where his father, Cuddie E. Davidson, Sr., was Judge of the Ottawa County Court. He came to New Jersey in 1934 and had lived in Westfield for 57 years.

Judge Davidson had been a partner in the law firm of Davidson and Buttermore in Westfield, a firm founded in the 1920s by Gustus Nash. Cuddie Davidson, Sr. later joined Mr. Nash as a partner. After Mr. Nash’s retirement in 1950, Judge Davidson’s father operated the firm on his own before his son joined him as a partner. The firm is now known as Buttermore Mullen, Jeremiah and Phillips.

He had served as Union County Assistant Prosecutor and Town Attorney of Westfield prior to being named to the judiciary in 1973. He retired in 1988.

Judge Davidson had served as President of the Union County Bar Association and as Chairman of its Ethics Committee.

He was also Chairman of The Joint Civic Committee in Westfield, the

Westfield Committee for Charter Study and the Union County Republicans, and was Co-Chairman of the Westfield Council of Churches.

He was a graduate of Weehawkin High School and Union Junior College, where he later served as a Trustee. Judge Davidson also graduated from Rutgers University and Rutgers Law School in 1949.

He served as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force in the European Theater during World War II.

Judge Davidson was a 50-year member of The Presbyterian Church in Westfield, where he also served as an Elder, Trustee, Deacon and Treasurer. He was also a longtime member of the Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth Py Davidson; two daughters, Margaret Elizabeth Davidson of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Deborah Leigh Davidson of Basking Ridge, and a sister, Virginia Davidson Ward of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, at The Presbyterian Church in Westfield.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Presbyterian Church in Westfield, 140 Mountain Avenue, Westfield, 07090.

J. Louisa West, 62, Was Legal Secretary; Guidance Counselor at Rutgers University

J. Louisa West, 62, of Plainfield died on Thursday, January 14, at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown.

Born in Munroe, North Carolina, she had lived in Madison before moving to Plainfield 37 years ago.

Mrs. West was a legal secretary for Legal Services of New Jersey in Edison for 20 years at the time of her death.

She had previously worked as a guidance counselor for Rutgers University and Livingston College in Piscataway for 10 years.

She graduated from Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Surviving are a son, James E. West, Jr. of Plainfield; two daughters, Melanie L. West of Mountainside and Lauretta E. West of Newton; a brother, Harold B. Moss of Weddington, North Carolina; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service was held on Monday, January 18, in the First Unitarian Society of Plainfield.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Judkins Colonial Home in Plainfield.
