Gina Suriano-Barber Named Top Salesperson for December
WESTFIELD – Gina Suriano-Barber has been named by Burgdorff Realtors ERA as Salesperson of the Month for December 1998.
Ms. Suriano-Barber sold four units with a total volume amounting to over $1.2 million. She was also
named salesperson of the month for October.
She has been a member of the New Jersey Association of Realtors Million Dollar Sales Club (NJAR) from 1989-1997. She also qualified for the Burgdorff ERA Leader’s Circle, ranking among the top 10 percent of all 27,000 ERA sales agents worldwide.
Ms. Suriano-Barber also achieved top position in the Westfield office for the Most Sales and Production, Closed Units, for 1997.

Winter Open House
St. Peter’s Preparatory School in Jersey City will host its Winter Open House on Sunday, January 31, from noon to 2:30 p.m.

Auditions Are Announced For Pippin at CDC Theater
CRANFORD — Auditions for the musical play Pippin will be held on two dates at the Cranford Dramatic Club Theater, located at 78 Winans Avenue in Cranford, on Sundays, January 31 and February 7, both beginning at 1 p.m.
Directed by Maurice Moran, with Musical Director Mary Beth McFall and choreography by Janice Shuhan, the cast of characters includes the Leading Player, who is of no specific age, race, creed or gender, and Pippin, a young man recently out of college.
Charles the King requires an actor of “tremendous power,” while Lewis, Pippin’s half-brother, is “in love with Lewis,” according to a CDC spokesman.
Fastrada, Pippin’s stepmother, is described as “devious and crafty,” while Berthe, Pippin’s grandmother, is a warm and still attractive person. Catherine is a widow with a young son, Theo, between 8 an 10. There are also five to eight parts for various roles of a chorus including beggars, peasants, soldiers, and citizens of France. Auditions will consist of reading from the script, a song of the auditioner’s choice, and movement and choreography.
Rehearsals will began in mid-February with performances slated for Fridays and Saturdays, May 7 and 8, 14 and 15, 21 and 22. Questions

Two Local Residents Earn Dean’s List Status
At Lafayette College
WESTFIELD – Mollie Christine Phelan and Stephen Jay Chiger of Westfield have achieved Dean’s List status at Lafayette College for the Fall 1998 semester, according to Christopher W. Gray, Dean of Studies.
Students must earn a grade point average of at least 3.45 out of a possible 4.0 to qualify for the Dean’s List. Lafayette College is located in Easton, Pennsylvania.
Saint Barnabas Announces Free Cancer Workshops
The Cancer Center at St. Barnabas Medical Center will host two free educational programs during February as part of its ongoing Coping With Cancer Workshop Series.
“Meditation for Emotional Strength and Resilience” will be presented on Thursday, February 4, at 6:30 p.m. by meditation instructor Evaleon Hill.
Participants will learn how to cope with a cancer diagnosis through meditation. Specific techniques will be demonstrated.
“Sexuality, Intimacy and Cancer” will be presented on Thursday, February 18, at 6:30 p.m. Dr. Barbara Rabinowitz, a sex therapist with St.
Barnabas, will discuss with couples the role that sexual and emotional intimacy play as a part of the healing process in cancer survival.
She will also discuss enhancing sexual intimacy and function during and after cancer treatment.
These programs will be offered free of charge. Registration is required. Both classes will be held in the Radiation Oncology Classroom located on the first floor of St. Barnabas Medical Center, located on Old Short Hills Road in Livingston.

Jason Biegelson Ends Submarine Course
SCOTCH PLAINS – Navy Ensign Jason H. Biegelson of Scotch Plains recently graduated from the Navy’s Submarine Officer Basic Course.
The 12-week course, which is taught at the Naval Submarine School in Groton, Connecticut, teaches students about the theory, construction, and operation of nuclear-powered submarines.
Students also receive instruction on damage control, submarine safety, escape procedures, submarine weapons, fire control and sonar systems.
Mr. Biegelson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David S. Biegelson of Scotch Plains. He graduated Scotch Plains – Fanwood High School in 1992 and joined the Navy in 1997. He also graduated Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, with Bachelor of Science and Master in Engineering Degrees in 1996 and 1997.
