Central Jersey Stars Attend Brazilian Style Soccer Camp

The newlyformed U14 girls select, Central Jersey Stars soccer teams, met recently at Houlihan Field in Westfield to participate in the first ever Brusa soccer camp. Brusa is a soccer camp devoted to teaching Brazilian style soccer, both technically and tactically.

Use of Brazilian rubber balls and the Brazilian "futsol" are applied during training. Also, three friendly games were played during the week to measure the girl's progress and then adjustments were to be made as the camp

progressed. Twentytwo girls participated. The girls were from Westfield, Montclair, Scotch Plains, Lambertsville, Morristown, Millburn, Middletown and Cranford.

Former professional Brazilian soccer player, Vinicius Meideros Dos Santos ran the camp. Assisting Professor Vinicius was Yvette Broderick, herself a former sevenyear player for the Central Jersey Stars and twoyear AllAmerican college player. Broderick presently plays for the semiprofessional team, the Springfield Sirens out of Springfield, Mass.

The teams were coached by Keith S. Hertell, in his 16th year with the Central Jersey Stars, and long time Central Jersey Star players RoseMarie Miller, a Villanova University AllAmerican. and Marcie Williams, a Stockton University AllAmerican. Both women were former Westfield High School standouts.
