New Services Now Offered On Social Security Web Site
Recent additions to the Social Security Web site open up new services and information resources for people to take care of their Social Security business.
For people who are too busy to call or stop by the office, these services can be a life-saver, according to Dennis Mass, Manager of the Social Security office in Elizabeth.
The services are available from Social Security Online at www.ssa.gov.
“If you are a Social Security beneficiary, you can now request a replacement copy of the Social Security benefit statement (Form 1090) you receive in January showing the total amount of benefits you received during the previous year,” Mr. Mass stated. “The form is used to help you determine your Federal income tax obligation.”
“You may also request a verification of your Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefit amount. You may need it to show to another agency to obtain services or other benefits,” he added.
The Social Security Web site offers a Web page for employers on com
prehensive wage reporting which includes information to share with employees. A Social Security Web page has also been designed for young children and teenagers with additional background for parents and teachers to use when discussing the Social Security program.
Mr. Mass said these services are in addition to the most frequently used services now online in which a person may:
· Request a copy of your earnings record including an estimate of the Social Security benefits payable to themselves and their families.
· Find out how to file a claim for retirement or disability benefits.
· Find out how to apply for, replace, or change the name on a Social Security card.
· Locate the name and address of the nearest Social Security office.
“Using the Internet can save you a lot of precious time when you want Social Security information or services in a hurry,” Mr. Mass stated.
LEAVING THEIR MARK…Cub Scout Pack No. 98 of Fanwood-Scotch Plains, pictured with Cubmaster Steve Flood, recently planted a tree on the property of their sponsor, the First United Methodist Church on Terrill Road in Scotch Plains. The boys planted the tree as an everlasting token of their appreciation for all the church has done to help the pack and to promote the Cub Scout program. In addition, the Scouts buried a time capsule to commemorate this special time in their lives.
