American Cancer Society Sets Benefit Walk for October 18
The American Cancer Society will hold its fifth annual “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” benefit walk on Sunday, October 18, beginning at 11 a.m. at Liberty State Park in Jersey City.
The five-mile, non-competitive walk will be held at various locations throughout the New York metropolitan area. It is the nation’s largest breast cancer fundraiser, according to the American Cancer Society.
“Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” supports the American Cancer Society’s breast cancer outreach programs, including education and patient services. In addition, with the support of this event, the American Cancer Society is the nation’s leading non-governmental supporter of breast cancer research.
“Strides has brought together thousands of people, survivors and their families, friends and co-workers, to support programs, research and critical legislation that has literally changed the face of breast cancer,” said Dr. Sheldon Feldman of the American Cancer Society’s Board of Directors.
The American Cancer Society also needs volunteers to help with the walk-a-thon. More than 7,000 walkers are expected to participate in the event at Liberty State Park.
Volunteers are needed to assist with directing walkers along the route, manning refreshment stations, setting up and cleaning up, and registration.
For more information about the walk or on volunteering, please call 1-800-ACS-2345.
