PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the undersigned, the Collector of Taxes of the Borough of Fanwood, Union County, New Jersey will sell at a public auction on the 10th day of December 1998, in the Mayor and Council Chambers in the Municipal Building, 75 North Martine Avenue, Fanwood, New Jersey at 10 o’clock in the morning, the below described lands. The said lands will be sold to make the amount of municipal liens chargeable against that same on the 10th day of December 1998 together with interest and cost of sale, exclusive however, of the lien for taxes for the year 1998. Said lands will be sold in fee to such persons as will purchase the same, subject to redemption at the lowest rate of interest, but in no case in excess of eighteen (18) percent per annum. Payment for the sale shall be made by cash, certified or cashier’s check, or money order or other method previously approved by the collector before the conclusion of the sale or the property will be resold. Any parcel of real property for which there shall be no other purchaser will be struck off and sold to the municipality in fee for redemption at eighteen (18) percent per annum and the municipality shall have the right to bar or foreclose right of redemption. The sale will be made and conducted in accordance with the provisions of Article 4 of Chapter 5 of Title 54, Revised Statutes of New Jersey, 1937 and amendments thereto. At any time before the sale, the undersigned will receive payment of the amount due on the property, with interest and costs incurred up to the time of payment by cash, certified or cashier’s check, or money order. Industrial properties may be subject to the Spill Compensation and Control Act (N.J.S.A. 58:10-23.11 et seq.), the Water Pollution Control Act (N.J.S.A. 58:10A-1 et seq.), and the Industrial Site Recovery Act (N.J.S.A. 13:1K-6 et seq.). In addition, the municipality is precluded from issuing a tax sale certificate to any prospective purchaser who is or may be in any way connected to the prior owner or operator of the site. RESOLUTION PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE
NOVEMBER 10, 1998
WHEREAS, Town Council retained the firm of Killam Associates on January 10, 1994, to perform a preliminary study of Tamaques Park Pond to determine the presence or absence of contaminants in the sediment relative to dredging and disposal requirements, and
WHEREAS, the results of the aforesaid study, as outlined in the report, “Tamaques Park Pond Improvements Feasibility Study,” dated June, 1994, revealed the presence of certain contaminants which would require costly special handling and disposal techniques, and
WHEREAS, the study also indicated that additional sampling and analysis is required to determine the type and extent of contaminants in the sediment, as well as the methods and costs of required remedial measures, and
WHEREAS, Town Council included $25,000.00 in the 1998 Operating Budget for the required additional study of Tamaques Park Pond, and
WHEREAS, Killam Associates submitted a proposal dated October 22, 1998, to conduct the aforesaid additional study, which would include further sampling and testing of sediment, evaluation of alternative measures for sediment removal and disposal, preliminary cost estimates of various remedial measures considered and investigation into possible outside sources of funding for the remedial work, and
WHEREAS, Killam Associates has proposed to provide the aforementioned services for a basic fee of $20,000.00 and an additional fee of $4,500.00 for additional sampling and analysis which may be required based upon the initial evaluation, and
WHEREAS, the Town Engineer has reviewed the aforesaid Proposal and recommends that a professional services contract for the additional study of Tamaques Park Pond as outlined in the Proposal dated October 22, 1998, be awarded to Killam Associates for the above-stated fee of $24,500.00:
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Town Council of the Town of Westfield that the aforementioned contract for professional engineering services required for further study of Tamaques Park Pond be awarded to Killam Associates, 27 Bleeker Street, Millburn, New Jersey in the amount of $24,500.00; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the fees for this work be charged to Account No. 8-001-137-256.

Nancy Bregman of Coldwell Receives Silver Level Award
WESTFIELD — The Board of Realtors has honored Nancy Bregman, an
Associate in C o l d w e l l B a n k e r’s Westfield office, with membership in the New Jersey Association of R e a l t o r s ’ (NJAR) Silver Level Million Dollar Club.
The Silver Level NJAR designation is
awarded to agents who have achieved an annual sales volume in excess of $5 million.
Mrs. Bregman also earned membership in NJAR’s Distinguished Sales Club by qualifying for NJAR’s Million Dollar Club for 10 consecutive years. In addition, she is a member of Coldwell Banker’s International President’s Circle, another group of high performance sales associates.

Carolyn Klinger-Kueter Recently Named To Who’s Who List
Carolyn Klinger-Kueter was recently selected for inclusion in the 5th edition of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. Tracy Van Cort, a former piano student of 10 years, recommended Ms. Klinger-Kueter for “making a difference in her life.”
Only high school and college students who have been cited for academic excellence themselves in Who’s Who Among American High School Students or The National Dean’s List
respectively, are invited to propose a teacher for their entire academic experience.
Ms. Klinger-Kueter has taught piano in Westfield for the past 40 years, as well as being a music specialist in several pre-school programs in the area. Current, she is a music facilitator at The St. Paul’s Nursery School in Westfield and conducts Kindermusik® classes as well.

Older Women’s League to Hear Report on Recent Convention
The Older Women’s League (OWL) Central New Jersey Chapter has announced that New Jersey delegates to the 1998 National Convention of the Older Women’s League will make a report at the chapter’s Saturday, November 21 meeting. The meeting, to begin at 10 a.m., will be
held at the YWCA of Summit on Morris Avenue and Prospect Street.
The delegates discussed topics such as “Making Money Last as Long as You Do,” “Creating a Long-Term Care System That Works,” “Women and The Future of Medicare,” and “Creating Positive Images of Midlife and Older Women” at the Convention which was held November 6 to 8 in Washington, D.C.

Cranford Theater Sets Auditions for Next Play,
‘Arsenic & Old Lace’
The Cranford Dramatic Club will hold auditions for “Arsenic & Old Lace” on Sunday, November 22, starting at 1 p.m., and on Tuesday, November 24, starting at 7 p.m. at the theater located at 78 Winans Avenue in Cranford.
“Arsenic & Old Lace” is the story of two ladies who love to entertain socially acceptable roomers, their brother who thinks himself Teddy Roosevelt, and a second mysterious brother.
The production will be directed by Peggy Seymour. Performances will on Fridays and Saturdays, February 19 and 20, 26 and 27 and March 5 and 6.

Yoga Center to Present Special Art Exhibition
WESTFIELD — Artists from the Westfield Art Association will exhibit original works that celebrate the human form at Nicole’s Yoga Center in Garwood on Friday, December 4, at 5 p.m.
The exhibit is part of an evening marking the Yoga Center’s 10th anniversary. A native of Paris, Nicole Mode has been teaching the science of yoga for 41 years.
The artwork will be displayed at the yoga center during a cocktail reception starting at 5 p.m. A dinner-dance featuring a 1950s and 1960s theme will follow at the Crossroads Restaurant in Garwood.

The exhibiting artists are members of a figure drawing group sponsored by the Westfield Art Association. Participants meet weekly to draw clothed models in the Community Room of the Westfield Municipal Building.

SALUTED FOR SERVICE…Westfield Mayor Thomas C. Jardim recently signed a resolution celebrating the 1998-1999 academic year as the 60th anniversary of the Westfield Adult School Association. Town Council representatives, the Westfield Board of Education, and other community groups joined the Westfield Woman’s Club in its community project in 1938 to develop the Adult School. Magnet High School to Host Second Informational Session
SCOTCH PLAINS — The Union County Magnet High School for Science, Mathematics and Technology will host its second informational session for interested applicants to the Class of 2003 and their parents on Monday, November 30, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the main auditorium.
The Magnet High School is located in Mancuso Hall on the Union County Vocational-Technical Schools campus at 1776 Raritan Road.
Students are admitted to the Magnet High School from all districts within Union County, and attend classes on a full-time basis. Transportation is provided.
The rigorous academic curriculum prepares them for entry into bacca
laureate degree programs. In collaboration with Union County College, the school also offers students the opportunity to earn up to one year of college credit prior to graduation from the Magnet High School.
According to Corinne Wnek, Director of Student Services, the upcoming informational session will feature speakers who will describe the nature of magnet high schools and how they differ from the local comprehensive schools.

Budgeting Seminar Set By Women for Women
WESTFIELD — Women for Women will present a budgeting seminar on Wednesday, December 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the Women for Women offices at 511 North Avenue in Garwood.
Guest speaker Meira Findel, an accountant from West Orange, will review household budgeting techniques and discuss attitudes about money.
Women for Women is a private, non-profit organization in Union County. It provides self-help services and professional counseling for women in crisis and transition.
